Son of the Late Taylor Hawkins Performed ‘My Hero’ on His Dad’s Drum Set With His Dad’s Band

Taylor Hawkins is best known for being the drummer of his legendary band the Foo Fighters, led by his bandmate and good friend, Dave Grohl.

Nearly six months ago, Hawkins passed away suddenly at the age of 50. Hawkins was in Colombia with the Foo Fighters preparing for a series of shows when he began experiencing chest pains at his hotel.

But by the time emergency personnel arrived Hawkins was already unresponsive. Despite performing lifesaving measures, Hawkins was declared dead at the scene.

While a cause of death has never been reported, Colombian authorities reported that a toxicology report revealed several substances in Hawkins’ system.

Since his passing, the Foo Fighters have canceled the rest of their shows. Now, the band is back again for the first time since Hawkins’ passing.

Over this past weekend, Hawkins’ bandmates performed a tribute concert dedicated to his life. And perhaps the most memorable moment of the night was when Hawkins’ son took the stage, grabbed his dad’s drumsticks, sat at his dad’s drum set, and performed.

Hawkins’ son, Shane, who is now 16 years old performed the band’s hit song, “My Hero,” a very fitting song. The performance was beautiful, emotional, and a must-see. Watch Shane make his dad very proud below:

The video also shows just how talented Shane is and how much he looked up to his dad over the years.

And fans were just mesmerized by Shane’s talent and poise. “Shane Hawkins is 16 years old, and gave the most incredible performance on drums of ‘My Hero’ at his own Dad’s tribute concert at Wembley,” a fan tweeted. “How on Earth did he hold it together? Surely one of the most poignant moments in rock history.”

Another fan shared similar sentiments, writing, “Some unbelievably talented kids but I think Shane Hawkins just shone brightest. To be able to play at that level in front of 90,000 people at a tribute concert for your dad is another level. Incredible.”

We agree, truly, and completely, incredible!
