Phase One of Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is now officially open! The attraction features the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers’ Run, a ride that invites visitors to climb into the cockpit and fly on a thrilling interactive smuggling mission, along with a plethora of Star Wars-themed restaurants and shops and full-scale droids milling about.
The next ride, Rise of the Resistance, is set to open later this year. According to Disney, “Rise of the Resistance will be one of the most advanced and immersive experiences ever undertaken by Walt Disney Imagineering, where guests can join a climactic battle against the First Order.”
Park visitors can join Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Lando Calrissian in building their own custom lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop or design and assemble a customized droid at the Droid Depot. There’s also plenty of spots to recharge, including Oga’s Cantina or Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo where guests can feast on galactic favorites.
To unveil the 14-acre themed destination, Disney held a star-studded grand opening. Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, George Lucas, and Disney CEO Bob Iger were on-hand at the California family-favorite theme park to welcome superfans to planet Batuu.
Florida’s Disney World has announced that it will open its own Galaxy’s Edge attraction on August 29, 2019.
