Due to the coronavirus, many families are relaxing the house rules amid the pandemic.
Washing your hands as soon as you walk in, clean doorknobs and other high-contact surfaces regularly, showering when returning home from a highly-populated area as well as wiping down packages down before opening are just some of the many new rules families are implanting at home.
In a new survey of 2,000 American parents of school-aged children, being more relaxed about existing house rules since the start of quarantine has more common.
Seventy-five percent of respondents confirmed having everyone home more often has caused them to relax house rules.
This includes not eating in front of the TV, not staying up past bedtime, not leaving wet towels or dirty clothes on the floor, and not using your phone at the dinner table — all made it to the top of the list of rules parents were more flexible on.
The survey, which was conducted by OnePoll on behalf of BISSELL Homecare, Inc., also revealed that 74 percent of respondents agreed that their house has never been messier.
SWNS also reported that one contributing factor of said messy homes are the relaxed rules.
Eighty-one percent of respondents who are also owners of a cat or dog said since their family has been home more often during the pandemic, their pet has been treated more like an actual member of the family.
This includes allowing them to lay on the couch or in the bed as well as letting them play more and get dirtier outside.
In addition, almost three in four pet owners said their pet’s hair seems to pile up more quickly in their home since the start of quarantine.

Seven in 10 respondents did not complete a spring clean this year as their family was home more often for several months.
That being said, 68 percent are planning a “fall clean” this year to make up for it.
While 77 percent of respondents agreed cleaning this season will me more of a hassle since everyone is at home more than usual.
