A mom writes in asking for advice about her teenage daughter. She says her 13-year-old came out as bisexual. This mom says she is struggling to balance accepting her daughter’s bisexuality and her religious views. She wants to support her daughter but is having a hard time doing so due to her religion. How can she support her daughter, ideally while also upholding her own beliefs?
When tackling complicated subjects, books can help to foster rich conversations between adults and children. Thankfully, an abundance of authors are writing literature to help little ones learn about the LGBTQ+ community, encouraging them to develop a sense of identity, love, equality, empathy, and to ultimately build community.
Pride Month is all about celebrating the best organizations, resources, and activists supporting the LGBTQ+ community. And the community itself, of course. There are many examples of meaningful outreach within communities and the country, as well as on an individual basis. We wanted to take a moment to highlight a few of the celebrities who’ve notably supported their LGBTQ+ children during their coming out and/or transitioning journeys and who have graciously shared their stories publicly.
