Tamera Mowry-Housley Talks Striking a Balance During the Busy Holiday Season: “It’s All About Making Memories”

Tamera Mowry-Housley rose to fame alongside her twin sister, Tia Mowry – so the family has always played a large role in her life. The two starred in Sister, Sister in the late 1990s, and Tia & Tamera in the early 2010s. Born to parents who both served in the Army, they have a close-knit and very tight family.

Now that Tamera has a family of her own, she wants to instill in her children some of the same traditional values that were instilled in her as a child. She married Adam Housley in 2011 after six years of dating and they share two children together – a son, Aden John Tanner (10), and a daughter, Ariah Talea (7).

In a recent interview with Kindred, Tamera Mowry-Housley spoke about the chaos she experiences when the holiday season rolls around. Despite the chaos that ensues with all the festivities and traditions going on around her, she does her best to strike a balance between chaos and joy – just like the rest of us.

“I feel like the holidays are the busiest, so it’s definitely more challenging to balance that time. But I make time for the traditions because it’s all about making memories,” said Tamera Mowry-Housley in her Kindred interview. It might be one of the busiest seasons for a mother of two, but there’s a joy to it.

Some of the traditions that stand out in the Mowry-Housley household are decorating the Christmas tree, making the family Christmas cards, and having a baking night with the family – including the extended relatives. She might be a celebrity, but her Christmas holiday looks a lot like everyone else’s, doesn’t it?

And just like everyone else, one of the most difficult things for Tamera during the holiday season is finding the right gifts to give her loved ones – especially the men in her life (father and husband, included). “My husband only likes a couple of things. It’s like baseball hats, sneakers, and shirts,” she said jokingly.

“And we’ve been together for over 17 years, so it’s like I have to be really creative, and also, I want to surprise him,” Tamera continued. Don’t worry, she shared some of her top gift ideas in partnership with Amazon to help make shopping this year that much easier – adding that online shopping helps save time.

Tamera Mowry-Housley Promotes New Memoir, Which Released in October

While talking about teaming up with Amazon, Tamera took advantage of the excellent opportunity to plug her new memoir – calling it a good holiday buy for someone that enjoys a good read. Her memoir, You Should Sit Down for This: A Memoir about Life, Wine, and Cookies, was released on October 4, 2022.

“There was a review—and it’s actually very true—that said I put in just enough for people to learn new things about me. If I couldn’t sleep at night with me omitting something, I put it back in. Everything that’s in it, I had peace about because I wanted people to learn from it,” said Tamera about her new book.

Those that have read the book are likening it to having a lighthearted conversation with Tamera over a hot glass of tea and freshly-baked cookies. She talks about things she never talked about before, but in a way that screams comfortability – as if you’ve known her for years. It could make a good stocking stuffer!

With that said, Tamera wants everyone to remember that the holiday season isn’t just about exchanging gifts with loved ones. While that’s certainly a part of the tradition, the holiday season is all about making memories and spending time with those you love most – and that’s exactly what she’s looking forward to.
