'Teen Mom' Star Kailyn Lowry Reconsidering Home Birth Due to 'High-Risk' Pregnancy

Teen Mom 2‘s Kailyn Lowry, who is currently pregnant with her fourth child, is reconsidering her desire to have a home birth due to her “high-risk” pregnancy.

The reality star opened up about her pregnancies and motherhood on a recent episode of her “Coffee Convos” podcast, which she co-hosts with Lindsie Chrisley.

“I know that I’m anemic and I’ve known that I’m anemic for years,” Lowry said on the podcast, according to People. “But [the doctor] was telling me how he wanted to make sure I was taking my iron. I said, ‘Yeah,’ and he told me that with every pregnancy you lose more blood — which is new to me. Nobody has ever told me that. I don’t know why I am just now learning this.”

She added that she was frustrated to learn from her doctor that “with every labor and delivery, you lose more blood” 37 weeks into her fourth pregnancy. She then began discussing how this unwelcome news may affect her desire to have a home birth.

“So this is now the third doctor who’s giving me a different reason for why I should be induced instead of home birth,” Lowry said. “And then on top of it said, ‘Because you’re anemic, because you lose more blood with every baby, we wouldn’t want to see you get a blood transfusion.’ I looked at him like a deer in f—ing headlights.”

Lowry then clarified that she planned to seek a second opinion from her “high-risk” doctor, which she says she has during this pregnancy because of her weight. “I have a ‘high-risk doctor’ or whatever. The only reason why I’m high-risk at this point is because of my weight, and everything seems to be fine. I really like him. He just is very open-minded and understands why I want to have a home birth … and understands why I don’t want to get induced and all of that stuff. So I’m going to just confirm with him.”

Lowry announced that she is expecting her fourth child, a baby boy, in February of this year. It is her second child with Chris Lopez. The couple welcomed their first together, son Lux Russell Lowry (almost three-years-old) in 2017. Lowry has two other children from previous relationships: Isaac Elliot Rivera (10) and Lincoln Marshall Maroquin (6).

We hope Lowry, who is due this month, a safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery. And while we hope she is able to have the home birth we know she wants, we hope she follows doctor’s orders and delivers safely under their recommendations.
