Eating for two? Here are 15 creative ways to spill the beans this Thanksgiving holiday

Many of us already have so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving…

But welcoming a newborn baby to the family takes the meaning of Thanksgiving to a whole new level!

It also means you get to have a little extra fun with your pregnancy reveal—in ways many other parents can’t.

RELATED: 50 Thanksgiving-themed baby names to be thankful for this year

That’s why, to help you make this holiday season extra special for you and your growing family, we’ve gathered 15 of our favorite Thanksgiving-themed pregnancy announcement ideas

Which one, if not several, you choose is 100% up to you, your significant other, and existing kids, if you have any.

Before we start, you have several decisions that must be made before you can put together the perfect pregnancy reveal—starting with who to tell.

Are you telling the entire family, just the soon-to-be grandparents, or putting it out on social media for everyone to see?

If telling the whole family, who is going to be the main target? Or will you set it up like a guessing game to see who figures it out first? And if you have kids, how will they be involved?

As you can imagine, there are a lot of fun and creative ways to go about a pregnancy announcement on Thanksgiving, but let’s see if any of these ideas get that baby of yours kicking!

Thanksgiving pregnancy reveal ideas with shirts and onesies

Wearing a shirt or sweater that hints at you being pregnant is one of the most popular ways to reveal a pregnancy—and there’s no real limit to how creative you can get.

Sure, it might take a minute for your family to notice, but eventually you’ll get a blank stare from someone as they read your shirt, followed by a loud, “WAIT, WHAT?!”

It’s also easy to include your existing children, so long as they know how to keep a secret.

And if you already have a Thanksgiving outfit picked out, you can always make shirts for the rest of the family and hand them out as they arrive—or give everyone a custom onesie!

That family picture is going to be one for the ages!

With that said, here are some ideas for using shirts and onesies for your Thanksgiving pregnancy reveal!

3. Wear punny shirts as a couple

This idea is for first-time parents who don’t already have a child or parents who can’t get their children to wear a pregnancy reveal shirt.

If that’s the case, then it looks like it’s just you and your significant other.

You can find a lot of Thanksgiving-themed pregnancy reveal shirts or sweaters (if you want to dress nice) online or you can have one custom made—either by a professional or at home.

Here are some punny sayings to consider for you and your significant other’s shirt:

When Thanksgiving Day rolls around, wear the shirts but don’t tell anyone and try to distract them from the shirt (without totally hiding anything).

If no one’s biting at the hint, try asking someone what their shirt says and see if they respond with a similar question. If so, then you’re in business!

2. Have the kids wear punny shirts

Those of you who already have a child or children are probably looking for ways to include them in the reveal.

If they’re willing to play along, a shirt is usually the easiest way to achieve that. If they’re not willing to play along, then try allowing them to pick out the shirt—it might change their mind!

And if you’re looking for some funny, Thanksgiving-themed puns to include on the shirt, then here are some ideas!

To make this reveal extra fun and special for the kids, give them the option of making their own shirt. Or, at the very least, allowing them to customize the shirt you bought online.

And make sure you explain to them that they can’t tell anyone about the baby until someone figures it out.

1. Gift your family members a punny onesie

For this one, you’ll have to decide who the primary target is, if not everyone.

If you’re targeting one or two people—for example, the soon-to-be grandparents—then find a punny, grandparent-themed onesie and wrap it up in a gift.

If you’re targeting everyone, go with a more general or vague pun.

Either way, here are some of our favorite Thanksgiving puns to include on the onesie:

To avoid suspicion as they open it, tell them you wanted to give everyone a special thank you for everything they do for you and your family year-round.

Trust me, the last thing they’ll be thinking is that a baby is on the way.

Thanksgiving pregnancy announcement ideas for the kitchen

It’s Thanksgiving, which means the kitchen will be busy, crowded, and hectic practically all day long.

Instead of letting that chaos stress everyone out, let’s use it to your advantage and surprise everyone with the big news when they’re most distracted.

Trust me, they’ll never see it coming!

From hanging something on the fridge until someone sees it to putting something in the cupboards for someone to find, the kitchen can be a great place to reveal your secret!

And once you get one person to scream out of joy, everyone else will come running with excitement.

With that said, here are a few fun and creative ways to take your Thanksgiving pregnancy announcement into the kitchen!

3. Extra buns in the oven

I’m using buns as an example because most families serve some sort of bread, bun or roll with their Thanksgiving dinner—but you can do this with any food.

Before everyone arrives, set up a small pregnancy reveal scene on an oven tray—like you would on social media with a letterboard and other baby-related items.

Hide the tray where no one can see it and wait for the perfect moment to strike.

When no one is looking, make sure the oven is off and put the tray in there. It’s best to do this when you’re done cooking, that way no one accidentally turns the oven on without you knowing.

Pick your target—for the sake of this article, let’s say the soon-to-be grandmother—and ask them to grab the buns or dessert from the oven. When they open the oven, SURPRISE!

If you want to avoid the oven, put it in the microwave or one of the cupboards—it’ll work either way!

2. Put a sign on the fridge

This is a great idea if you have kids and need to keep them busy with an arts and crafts session

Plus, you probably have some of their artwork on the fridge already, so it’ll blend right in!

If you want to keep it simple, have your kids create a sign using one of the punny quotes we gave you above. Have them decorate it however they want—that way, everyone’s having fun!

Another cool idea is to design it like a card. Put “We have some news to share…” (or something similar) on the front to grab attention. Hopefully, someone’s nosy enough to take a look!

You can also create homemade Thanksgiving decorations with hints of your pregnancy on them and hang them throughout the house. Someone will see it, eventually.

1. Wear a custom apron

Are you one of the chefs in the family? Then you’ll probably be wearing an apron for much of the first half of the holiday.

If that’s the case, then a pregnancy reveal shirt won’t do much good. But that’s okay, you can always go with a custom apron!

At some point, someone is bound to say, “Awh, that’s a cute apron. What does it say?”

When you hear those words, it’s go time!

And if you don’t hear those words, try forcing them out of someone by bringing attention to the apron. For example, try saying, “I just got this new apron not that long ago. What do you think?”

Either way, the apron idea is a great way to see how observative your family is in the kitchen!

Thanksgiving pregnancy announcement ideas for the dinner table

Drazen Zigic / Shutterstock.com

You’ve greeted the guests and the food is cooked. All that’s left to do is eat!

Whether you’ve been saving the reveal for this moment or are still waiting for someone to get the hint, the dinner table is an excellent place to share the exciting news—or at least another hint.

That’s especially true if your family says a prayer or shares what they’re thankful for before digging in. I think we all know what your response would be!

And yes, it will be ironic when one of your family members jokes that they ate so much they now have a food baby, but that could be the perfect segway to your announcement!

With that said, here are three ways you can spill the beans (not literally) at the Thanksgiving dinner table.

3. Get creative with the tableware

Aside from shirts, one of the most popular gifts for a pregnancy reveal is a coffee mug or tumbler with a punny quote.

Let’s do something like that, but instead of a coffee mug, buy (or make) each of your guests a customized glass or cup with a saying on it.

Or, if you’re the first sibling to welcome a child, just put “Uncle Ryan” or “Grandma Judy” on it to see how long it takes for everyone to realize their new title.

If glasses are too expensive, you can do the same thing with napkins or any type of disposable dinnerware. Just make sure you order extras so people (including you) can keep them as a memento.

You can also make custom place cards and set them on everyone’s plate before eating, or hide little notes under the plates and wait until it’s time to clean up. Whoever finishes eating first will get the first gasp!

2. Create a pregnancy-inspired centerpiece

Every Thanksgiving dinner table needs a centerpiece.

Whether that’s a cornucopia or a framed family photo is up to you, but we’re going to give it a little pregnancy twist this Thanksgiving.

Draw little baby feet and put your due date on all the tiny gourds, baby pumpkins, and other items that generally go in a cornucopia. And instead of large candles, go with baby candles.

You’ll obviously want to incorporate an ultrasound photo in the mix, but don’t make it too obvious—the goal is to keep it a surprise as long as possible to build the suspense.

This is also an excellent opportunity to get the children, if you have them, involved with some arts and crafts. After all, you can use all the decorations you can get your hands on.

1. Reveal the news during a Thanksgiving prayer

Some families take part in a group prayer before they eat, while others go around the table and share what they’re thankful for. Some families even do both!

If your family falls into one of those categories, then that means you have a perfect opportunity to reveal the big news while you have everyone’s attention.

For those who take part in a prayer, you’ll either have to be the one giving the prayer or take a quick moment to add on to the prayer already given.

If someone else is leading the prayer, check with them first and let them know you’ll have something extra to add.

And if you’re sharing what you’re thankful for, you’ll need to decide whether you want to go first or last.

Personally, I suggest going last, that way everyone else has a chance to share their blessings before you steal the spotlight. And trust me, you will steal the spotlight!

Thanksgiving pregnancy announcement ideas for game time

maxbelchenko / Shutterstock.com

Once dessert is served and everyone has an opportunity to let their stomachs settle, it’s game time.

This might not be a tradition in everyone’s family, but maybe this is the year that it starts!

Games are a great way to have a little fun with everyone on Thanksgiving—and they don’t always have to be Thanksgiving-themed.

Some families like to play poker, while others go with a game of charades. As long as everyone’s having fun, that’s all that matters!

But this year you have an extra player joining—albeit in the form of a bump—so let’s find a way to use game time as your big reveal!

3. Complete a custom puzzle together

Who doesn’t love a good puzzle? Especially when the entire family is involved!

Instead of going with a fall, Thanksgiving, winter, or Christmas-themed puzzle this year, let’s go with a custom one—one that’ll be worth framing when it’s all said and done.

Don’t worry, you can design and build your own puzzle online through a variety of companies, including VistaPrint

It’s a great way to debut those maternity photos and family photoshoots, but you can also use Canva to create a pregnancy reveal scene that you would see on social media.

Either way, creating the puzzle is as easy as uploading the photo, choosing how many pieces you want the puzzle to be, and waiting for it to ship.

Just make sure you hide the box so everyone doesn’t see what the puzzle looks like when it’s done!

2. Play a special game of Pictionary

Pictionary is one of those classic games many families play during the holiday season.

It’s also one of those games that can easily be made into a pregnancy reveal—as well as charades!

One fun idea is to have all the clues be baby-related and wait for someone to catch on. For example, some of the words could be car seat, baby on board, diaper bag, or stroller.

Plus, it’ll be funny watching your family members try to draw those items.

You can also go the classic route and give yourself a pregnancy-related clue and try to get everyone to guess. Once someone gets it right, you can reveal the big news!

1. Hand everyone custom scratch-offs as they arrive

Scratch-offs are another popular way to surprise someone with any type of news, especially a pregnancy!

You can order the scratch-offs online and customize them to say whatever you’d like.

For example, let’s say your parents are the first to arrive. When they win (everyone’s a winner with these), they’ll scratch the prize box and it’ll say, “Congratulations, you’re a grandpa/grandma!”

@khloekuriatnyk

Replying to @m_dunky Growing up, it was always just my mom and I. As an only child to a single mother, I watched her do everything humanly possible to give me the life she believed I deserved. She taught me how to be strong, how to be brave and how to be confident enough to go after the things I want in life. She has always been my biggest role model and the moment I became a mother myself, I knew what being a great mom looked like because I watched her be one all my life. Words will never describe the amount of gratitude I have to be able to share these special moments with her. 🥹 fyp momsoftiktok momtok momlife momhumor pregnancyannouncement pregnant pregnancy singlemom

You have a number of ways to go about this, but the easiest is to hand everyone a scratch-off as they arrive and let the surprise gradually build as more people show up.

This allows you to capture everyone’s individual reactions as the night goes on. Just make sure no one ruins the surprise before incoming guests have a chance to scratch their card.

And, of course, make sure you label who gets which card, that way your brother gets one that says “uncle” and not “grandpa.”

Thanksgiving pregnancy announcement ideas for social media

Anca_Tab / Shutterstock.com

You’ve already shared the news with your family and closest friends, but now it’s time to let the world know—if you want, of course.

While you can certainly go stand on the edge of your driveway and scream the news out for all to hear, let’s try to find a more effective and less disruptive way of sharing the joy.

Enter social media.

You’ve probably seen people post Thanksgiving-themed photoshoots or set up a small scene with baby blocks, a onesie, and a letterboard with the exciting news.

Here are a few unique ways to let your followers—or family members who couldn’t make the feast—know you’re pregnant this Thanksgiving.

3. Photoshoot at the bump-kin patch

It’s okay if your baby bump isn’t showing yet—you’re still invited to the bump-kin patch!

Sure, taking trips to the pumpkin patch is more of a Halloween thing, but hey, it’s still technically fall and who doesn’t love a good pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving?

For this idea, you’ll need to pick two big pumpkins (for you and your significant other) and smaller pumpkins, depending on how many kids you have.

The younger the child, the smaller the pumpkin—with the smallest pumpkin being reserved for the soon-to-be.

All you need to do is carve everyone’s birth year into the front of each pumpkin, like you would on Halloween, and place each pumpkin in front of each family member.

One of those pumpkins, the smallest one, will be all by its lonesome, but it’ll read “Coming soon” or “Due 2025.” You can also carve a punny quote into it!

If it’s just you and your significant other, take a photo with your backs to one another and hold your belly like you normally would. As for your significant other, have them hold a pumpkin by their belly.

You can caption the photo, “We took a trip to the bump-kin patch this year. Coming soon, Feb. 2025.”

2. Set up a pregnancy reveal scene

This is what most expecting parents do these days when revealing a pregnancy on social media.

Before you start, grab all the items you’d like to use in the scene and lay them out in front of you—that way, you can visualize everything as you go.

That includes pumpkins, corn ears, pieces of pie, a cornucopia, garland, fall-colored leaves, and anything else that screams Thanksgiving to you.

You’ll also want a letterboard, your ultrasound photos, a calendar, and a custom onesie, if you have one.

As far as setting it up, there’s no real right or wrong way to do it. Just pick a punny quote you like and start building it out one piece at a time. Eventually, you’ll be left with a masterpiece!

1. Debut your Thanksgiving pregnancy reveal shirts

Remember those Thanksgiving pregnancy reveal shirts you wore with the family? Why not take a family photoshoot with them?

This could be as simple as posing in your living room and using the timer to get a good photo, or going all out and hiring a professional photographer.

And while there doesn’t have to be a scene behind you, it’ll certainly help set the mood!

That means bring out the balloons, paint a big poster (instead of a letterboard), and get some pink and blue confetti.

If you go with the confetti, try doing a Boomerang-type video to further capture the moment. Or simply take a video of your family members’ reactions and post that!

Either way, make sure you include a punny caption to go with the beautiful photo!

As you and your family celebrate the year’s blessings, we bid you and your significant other a massive congratulations as you step into this new chapter of your life.
