Many of us have come to know Queen Elizabeth II as the regal and sophisticated monarch she is today! But in celebration of her 96th birthday today, the Royal family is celebrating by sharing a few rare photos of the queen, including one of her as a child.
As it was revealed on Instagram, this particular photo was taken when 94 years ago! The queen was just a mere 2-year-old toddler at the time!

How sweet is this? “Then Princess Elizabeth, she was the eldest daughter of The Duke and Duchess of York and was never expected to become Queen,” the Instagram caption revealed. “Her life changed in 1936 when her uncle, King Edward VIII abdicated, her father became King George VI and the young Princess became the heir presumptive.”
“Following the sad death of her father in 1952, Princess Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth II aged just 25, and this year is celebrating 70 years on the throne – a first in British history,” the caption continued.
The Royal family also shared a recent photo of the Queen standing in the middle of her two beloved fell ponies. Her Majesty reportedly calls them Bybeck Katie and Bybeck Nightingale.
As the caption reveals, this photo was captured just last month. “The photo is the fourth in a series of photos released by the Royal Windsor Horse Show, following images that celebrated the Golden Jubilee, the Platinum Jubilee, and Her Majesty’s 90th Birthday.”
But the images don’t stop there! The Royal family also shared photos from Jubilees’ past! This year’s celebration will mark the Queen’s 70th year of her reign, a historic feat!

“Over the next 70 days, as we countdown to the #PlatinumJubilee Celebration Weekend, we’ll be sharing an image a day of The Queen – each representing a year of Her Majesty’s 70-year long reign,” the Instagram page revealed.
On September 19, 2015, Her Majesty became the longest-reigning Monarch. She surpassed her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria who ruled for 63 years and 216 days, according to The Royal Family!
The Queen’s platinum jubilee year celebration will take place in June, right on her great grandchild’s first birthday, Lilibet. Lilibet is Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter, who was named after the Queen! Happy birthday, Queen Elizabeth!
