Vanessa Bryant just got some new ink with her eldest daughter. The 38-year-old mama took to Instagram on Tuesday to share pics and videos of the tattoos she and her 18-year-old daughter, Natalia, had with artist Nikko Hurtado. Vanessa opts for the nickname “Mambacita” on her arm along with a butterfly in honor of her late daughter Gianna “Gigi.”
Natalia was up next and Hurtado tattooed a date on the inside of her finger and another on her wrist. Seeing this beautiful mother and daughter getting tattoos together made us want to look at mother-daughter tattoos. People often get matching tattoos or ones that complement each other in a special way to symbolize the special bond between a mom and her daughter.

Big, Floral, Fun
This mother-daughter pair got matching floral designs on the same shoulder. This design is rather large, but it shows the possibilities open to pairs who want to “go big.”
Wings of an Angel
These cute mother-daughter tattoos imagine the wings and halo of an angel. We suppose this symbolizes their faith in one another. Many of us consider our mothers and daughters angels.
Stay Positive
“My baby girl has been begging me for a year for us to get this tattoo together and we finally got it yesterday,” the mom with this tattoo shared. “I must say it was hard because she’s only 17 and I didn’t feel comfortable with her getting a tattoo but I must confess, I LOVE IT.”
Family Ties
Floral designs are among the most popular options chosen by mothers and daughters. These matching tattoos feature black and white ink with the word “family” in the center of each. This ink is sharp!
Head & Heart
Mom got the brain tattoo and her daughter got a heart. Each are split in half representing parts that complete one another. A beautiful sentiment and visual metaphor.
Promise
You might have to make mom pinky swear to go through with getting a tattoo with you! We love these matching promise tattoos that symbolize the powerful bond between these two women.
Watercolor Kites
Watercolor tattoos are a popular trend at the moment and this pair has gotten some fine examples of it. Two kites fly in a pastel-colored sky the lines spelling “daughter” and “mother.” A very sweet idea!
Got Your Back
Elephants are another popular option that many moms and their daughters choose. We find a mother elephant followed by her little baby in these designs. “Because of her I will not fail,” each design says.
Daggers
This mom must be a touch metal! We find a dagger paired with a rose in these matching tattoos. Notice how fine the lines are here. The artist had a light touch and likely used a hand-poked method to complete it so skillfully.
Matching Hearts
As you might expect among mothers and the daughters who love them, hearts are a very popular option. These are cute and dainty using little dots to give the designs visual interest and texture.
Mama Owl
Any natural element is game for mother-daughter tattoos. Here, we find a pair of owls snuggled up to one another on a cherry tree. The very sweet design is on the larger side which might appeal to some. However, smaller designs are typically the norm.
No Matter What
We find a message of enduring love in “No matter what” and “No matter where.” Knowing that a parent will always show up for you is the most meaningful feeling for most people. It’s only natural this pair would get a design that perfectly proclaims that.
Dandelion
We find mom with a dandelion being blown in the wind while daughter has one of the seed head’s on her wrist. It’s a beautiful symbol of motherhood. Many tattoos play on this theme and have matching or corresponding designs that don’t exactly match.
Mama & Laura
Having the stems of flowers spell names, emotions, and more are very popular right now. Here we find “Mama” and “Laura” incorporated into the floral designs.
Giving Life
These tattoo designs knocked our socks off. We find mom with a tattoo of hand sprinkling cosmic shapes. Her daughter’s tattoo of a hand appears to “receive” or “catch” the cosmic material. This is a very unique concept that looks excellent.
Bold and Black
Here are two matching butterflies in bold, black ink. These bugs are very handsome and we are certain that the two women with them can look at their ink and think fondly of one another.
Life & Purpose
The forearm is the place most moms and daughters get matching tattoos on. However, we did come across a few interesting placements. This one of feet fitting together to form a sunflower is one of the most unique. One foot has text that reads “You gave me life.” The other, “You gave me purpose.” How tender!
DNA
Well, they took the brief rather literally! We find a mom and her daughter with matching strands of DNA that transform into flowers and stars. Do you, folks!
Dainty Details
A new trend among mothers and daughters is to get small or micro tattoos that show love and other ideas. We find two very neat hearts here on the wrists and while this is not breaking any new ground, we do think the tattoos look excellent.
Puzzle Me
Very smart looking little puzzle pieces are another possibility in this tiny tattoo genre. You will notice that the pieces do not match and instead are made to look as if they would fit together.
Night & Day
We find another theme explored in these fish tattoos. Similar to the head and heart design we say, we find night and day contrasting next to one another. The lines are super tidy!
Humming
How neat do these geometric and slightly abstract hummingbird tattoos look? We love the way the wings have been conceived, as if in flight and full of life. Choosing something that you both cherish is the perfect place to look for tattoo inspiration.
Penguin Love
Alone, this would be an adorable design but knowing that a mother and daughter both have it makes it even sweeter. The way the penguins are looking at each other is just so precious.

Transformations
“For 25 years I harbored, nursed, cradled the thought of getting inked,” one mom captioned this photo. “I chickened out every time I had the opportunity. Finally, when my next generation got her first tattoo a couple of months back, I was amazed at her cool attitude about getting one.”
“We wanted something that could define 2020 for us,” she said of the tattoo’s symbolism. “A Metamorphosis of Attitude, Learning, and Experience. Living in total awareness with a feeling of gratitude and inner transformations.”
Hand In Hand
We find a portrait of this mother-daughter duo created from the stems of flowers. It’s a unique touch on a popular idea. The little buds on the flowers are so tiny! Bravo!
There you go! Do you think you can talk your mother or daughter into getting a tattoo with you? Would she be open to matching designs? We hope you feel inspired by these mother-daughter tattoos and will consider getting one with the person you love most. Thanks to Vanessa and Natalia Bryant for inspiring us to look deeper into a most special type of tattoo.
