Viridiana Arevalo, 23, was eight months pregnant when she was strangled by her brother because, as he told police, she was an “embarrassment” to the family.
Her brother, Eduardo Arevalo, 19, had been arrested for the murder which he staged to look like a suicide. Viridiana’s body was found by a group of neighbors in an alley in the Dallas suburb The Colony, according to a news release shared by The Colony Police Department.

Eduardo Arevalo confesses to killing his pregnant sister Viridiana Arevalo because he thought she was an ’embarrassment’ to the family.
Viridiana, whom the family called Viri, disappeared on December 17 and police had been searching for her since. Her family told police at the time of her disappearance that they believed she might hurt herself because they had found a note saying she planned to commit suicide, according to KDFW.
Since the body was discovered, Eduardo confessed that he murdered his sister while she was sitting next to him on a couch. He then put her body in his trunk, drove an hour from their home and dumped the body, he told police. He also confessed that he wrote a fake suicide note.
“As the week went on, Eduardo stated that he wanted his family to know where Viri was at so he went and picked up her body and brought her back Sunday morning in the early morning hours and dumped her body in the alleyway,” said Sgt. Aaron Woodard with The Colony Police Department.
Police asked for neighbors in the area to share any footage they had from their home security camera to help them better establish a timeline.
Viri’s family has been trying to make sense of the crime.
“It takes a piece of me that I can’t get back, from my sister, my little brother as well. To see him like this, I would never imagine him being in a mugshot, in jail,” said Diego Arevalo, Viri and Eduardo’s brother.
Eduardo is currently being held on a $1 million bond and faces capital murder charges.
