“So I’ve recently gotten out of a 9-year relationship with someone I share a 5-year-old son with. I’m not out there looking for anything serious relationship-wise but I’m just letting things flow and whatever happens, happens. So my question is, how far into talking to someone do you reveal that you have a child?”

There is no point in waiting to mention that she has a son, according to community members. One commenter wrote, “Instantly. You wait forever, or at least until you’re sure they’re the one before you let them meet your child, but tell them you’re a parent right away.”

Another person said, “I made it part of my bio on a dating app in big letters, ‘I AM A MOM.’ My son comes first. If you can’t handle that, move along.”

And one mom added, “I don’t know about you but my daughter is my LIFE. There’s no me without her. I wouldn’t be able to go five minutes talking to someone without mentioning her. So I’d say immediately.”
