Was it a bit? Was it a joke? It didn’t seem like it after the Oscars’ had to cut the audio.
As Chris Rock did a quick comedy bit before presenting an Oscar award, Rock targeted Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. While talking about couples who were nominated on the same night, Rock joked about Jada’s look.

While Jada was rocking a divine green grown and a shaved head, Rock poked fun at her hairstyle. In reference to her shaved head, Rock told Jada that he was looking forward to her starring in G.I. Jane 2.
Jada, not amused by Rock’s joke, rolled her eyes and Rock played it off a few chuckles of his own until Will made his way on stage. Smith took a swing at Rock, which caught him off guard.

That’s when the audio cut out and the camera showed Smith screaming at Rock from his seat. It appeared that Will was telling Rock to “keep my wife’s name out your f*cking mouth!”
Oscar so boring is clearly no more! People were quick to hop on social media to argue about whether or not the scuffle was a bit or not.
Rapper and producer Sean Combs came on the stage next and addressed the situation, joking that he, Will, and Rock will make amends during the Gold After Party. The camera showed both Will and Jada laughing at that response.
