William Daniels Celebrates 96th Birthday With ‘Boys Meets World’ Castmates in Chicago: “What a Life, What an Icon”

Anyone who watched television in the 1980s and 1990s is a fan of William Daniels – best known for his roles as Mark Craig in St. Elsewhere (1982-1988) and George Feeny in Boy Meets World (1993-2000). He hasn’t acted as much since then, but his career dates back to the 1940s – he’s a legendary actor.

On March 31, Daniels celebrated his 96th birthday with his castmates from Boy Meets World and it created quite a nostalgic moment for anyone who grew up watching the show – including myself.

They met in person at The Loyalist in Chicago, IL – a gastropub known for its quality food and atmosphere.

Daniels was joined by Danielle Fishel (Topanga), Rider Strong (Shawn), Will Friedle (Eric), Trina McGee (Angela), and Anthony Tyler Quinn (Jonathan) – as well as his 93-year-old wife, Bonnie Bartlett. Daniels and Bartlett will be celebrating their 72nd wedding anniversary on June 30th.

Social media has been buzzing over the past few days as the castmates took to Instagram and Twitter to share photos of the get-together – highlighted by a photo posted by William Daniels on Instagram, who was sitting next to his wife and holding a cupcake with a ‘96’ candle on it.

They were both full of smiles.

Pod Meets World, a podcast hosted by Fishel, Strong, and Friedle (Topanga, Shawn, and Eric), took to their Instagram account to share a photo of the three alongside Daniels. They also shared a photo of the whole group together – including McGee, Quinn, and Daniels’ wife. Again, everyone looked so happy.

The photo, which was originally shared by PEOPLE, was also posted on McGee’s Instagram account. She also posted a video montage of Quinn and Daniels embracing each other – both of whom played teachers at John Adams High School, where the Boy Meets World cast went to school in the show.

Perhaps the biggest name that wasn’t there was Ben Savage – who played the main character, Cory Matthews on the show. He was asked to be a part of the Pod Meets World podcast but kindly declined. Last month, the actor announced his run as a Democrat for California’s 30th congressional district.

It’s always nice to see former castmates reunite, especially a legendary cast like the one in Boy Meets World. The good news is their recent get-together on March 31 was just the start of it.

The group will be getting together again in mid-September for 90s Con in Tampa, Florida between September 15 and 17.

William Daniels will be joined by his wife Bonnie Bartlett, Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong, Will Friedle, Trina McGee, and a few others – including Matthew Lawrence (Jack Hunter), Betsy Randle (Amy Matthews), William Russ (Alan Matthews), and Lee Norris (Stuart Minkus). Prepare for a whirlwind of nostalgia.

It’ll be the perfect time to get together and the perfect stage as the sitcom celebrates 30 years since it first aired on September 24, 1993. The show continued until May 5, 2000 – totaling 158 episodes across seven seasons.

It was eventually succeeded by Girl Meets World, which aired between 2014 and 2017.

For those that were hoping to see Ben Savage at 90s Con in September, you’ll have to do without him as he’s not scheduled to attend – likely because he’s focusing on his political career. Nonetheless, fans will have a strong majority of the rest of the recurring cast there and can always tune in to Pod Meets World!
