The woman in the photo you see above is known to the internet as Sahar Tabar. In December 2020, at 19 years old, she was arrested.

According to the Guardian, Tabar—who was born Fatemeh Khishvand—was sentenced to 10 years in jail because of the picture you see above. According to reports, Tabar was charged with the corruption of young people and disrespect for the Islamic Republic.

For years, it was rumored that Tabar was using plastic surgery to mimic the look of iconic actress Angelina Jolie. But reports suggest Tabar was simply distorting her images.

If we are being honest, while Tabar certainly got creative with her photos, influencers often “distort” their photos, using photoshop to make them look and appear a certain way. Following her arrest, Tabar did make an appeal to Angelina Jolie.

According to the Guardian, Tabar told Jolie that “the Islamic Republic has a history of tormenting women. We need to be united against this gender apartheid.”

Older reports further claimed that Tabar struggled with mental illness. The report claimed Tabar had made several visits to psychiatric hospitals. It was claimed the teen “sought ‘vulgarity’ on social media.”

This is a particularly timely story considering what is going on in Iran at the moment. In September, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman known as Mahsa Amini died while in police custody after she was arrested under Iran’s hijab laws.

As a result of her death, several protests have formed. These gatherings are protesting the rights of women, as thousands of brave women removed their headscarves and cut their hair in public. Some of the chants being said among the protests, including, “Women, life, freedom.”

Heartbreakingly, several injuries have been reported during the protests after authorities engaged in the matter.

Tabar is still awaiting a pardon.
