Two Young Boys Steer Their Father’s Car to Safety After He Was Shot to Death in the Driver’s Seat

On August 20th, a father and his children were driving in their car when the father was reportedly shot as he was driving the vehicle. The 29-year-old, who has since been identified as Tyler Young was chauffeuring his two young boys around, who are believed to be just 6 and 8 years old at the time of the shooting.

According to ABC 23, Young was shot when a white sedan pulled up alongside his SUV. Young reportedly died behind the wheel, leaving his two young sons to fend for themselves.

The young children told police that they were in the car when they heard a loud pop. One of the boys admitted that they thought a rock hit their car but then saw their own father laying on the steering wheel.

The children admitted it was then that they knew something was wrong. But then something of a miracle happened after their father was shot.

As KPRC reported, the brothers grabbed the wheel of the vehicle and managed to drive the SUV safely off the main highway and onto a service road which was about a mile away. After parking the car, the boys ran towards a Chili’s where they found a woman who could help them.

Police are now praising the young boys for their bravery! The search for their father’s killer is still ongoing.

“We don’t know if it was road rage or if it was someone actually trying to get these individuals,” Houston Police Lt. R. Willkens told reports. “So, prayers for their family. The kids are safe right now.”

According to a GoFundMe set up to help Young’s family, he was married with a third child who was reportedly not with them the night of his passing. Further, the GoFundMe described the 29-year-old as a beloved son who was building a home for his family.

Now, his wife no longer wants to live there. “[Tyler] was a loved son of a single mother, brother of 3, husband, and father of three. Tyler has been rebuilding a manufactured home for about 3 months now and his wife doesn’t wish to live there anymore. I am raising funds as his brother to make this transition as honorable as it should be and easy for his family.”

A $10,000 reward is now available for anyone who has any information that can help the police arrest the person(s) responsible for Young’s death, KTRK reports. Those with any information should call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477) or the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
