The Only Version of ‘Old Town Road’ We Want to Hear From Now On Is This Version by Third Graders

Lil Nas X‘s “Old Town Road,” the most popular song in the country, just got a new remix that takes the song to even greater heights. Don’t believe us? Just watch these third graders absolutely nail their education-themed version. (We think they give Blue Ivy a run for her money!)

Mrs. Merlette, a third-grade teacher in Birmingham, AL, posted a video to her Instagram depicting her class performing an energetic version of the rap-country crossover hit.

It’s not just a straightforward cover, though. The class added education-themed lyrics that almost makes schoolwork sound… exciting?

Some of the new, school-appropriate lyrics in this rendition include:

“I’m gonna ace my test / I’m gonna raise my score / I’m gonna solve ’til I can’t no more / I got the answers in the back / Scratch work is attached / Pencils in my bag and I’m solving mighty fast / School is my task / I can do this math / Really quick and fast, education is my swag.”

That’s so good it almost makes us want to do homework. Almost.

We just love seeing teachers getting creative in an effort to inspire their students, and this is certainly a case of that. So bless you, Mrs. Merlette, and your class of beautiful and talented children.

And you know who else approves? Lil Nas X himself!

Lil Nas X’s original “Old Town Road” has been the No. 1 song in America for four weeks and counting. It’s so popular that many music fans and chart-watchers are expecting it to block Taylor Swift‘s new song, “ME!,” from debuting at No. 1.

After the initial release of the original song, Billboard controversially removed it from their country charts. They claimed it did not contain enough country elements, and therefore was not eligible for that particular chart. After a period of public outcry, Billy Ray Cyrus hopped on a remix, and if that’s not country, we don’t know what is.

And although we love Billy Ray Cyrus, we have to say our favorite version is the one sung by these adorable third-graders. How could it not be?
