Kids can do some very interesting things in the kitchen and, let’s be honest, typically that includes making a mess of some kind. Brooke, 7, had a different kind of kitchen “mess” in mind when she recently helped her mom prep dinner by washing the chicken with dish soap.
Brooke’s mom, Essence Evans, had asked her to prep the chicken while she took a quick shower. Brooke took it upon herself to clean the chicken by washing the drumsticks with Dawn® dish soap.
Essence shared a video of her daughter hard at work cleaning the chicken, saying “I GAVE MY 6 YO ONE JOB AND THIS IS WHAT SHE DID…WHEN I SAID CLEAN THE CHICKEN I DIDN’T MEAN LITERALLY!” On the video, you can see Brooke cleaning the chicken in a sink full of water and bubbles, while her mom shockingly says, “That is not how you clean chicken!”
Brooke responded, “Yes it is… You need soap on chicken so it can stay fresh.”
Her mom responded, “Brooke, you had one job, to run the water – you literally made the chickens a bath.”
The family, who lives in Atlanta, Georgia, was surprised at how much attention the video has gotten. It’s now racked up more than 44,000 shares and more than 13,000 comments.
When I’m not hanging out with my three-year-old and husband in Brooklyn, I’m busy writing stories for Mamas Uncut and managing PR + Marketing for Magnolia Bakery, based in New York City. On weekends, you can usually find me at a local park or playground pushing my daughter on the swings, “researching” the best almond croissants in Park Slope or launching into impromptu family dance parties at home, the sidewalk or, every once in awhile, a restaurant bathroom. I’m still trying to master the whole parenting thing, but I have learned that copious amounts of coffee, humor and humility are involved on a daily basis.
