In a statement shared on Facebook, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall’s mom, Erin Pearsall is speaking out.
According to NBC Sports, Erin began her statement writing, “First and (foremost), I want to thank GOD for protecting my baby boy. He was extremely lucky. God shielded him.”
Ricky, a rookie for the 49ers, was shot in the chest during an armed robbery on Aug. 30. Both Ricky and the suspected were taken to a local hospital with injuries.
In her statement, Erin continued, saying Ricky “was shot in the chest and it exited out his back. Thanks be to GOD it missed his vital organs.”
“He is in good spirits right now,” she revealed. “Life is so precious, my friends. Please love each other. My son was spared today by the grace of God. Please pray for my baby.”
Ricky was a first round draft pick for the 49ers.
On Sept. 1, the organization shared an update on Ricky’s condition, revealing that he “was released from the hospital this afternoon as he continues to recover from a bullet wound to his chest.”
“He and his family, along with the entire San Francisco 49ers organization, would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department, emergency medical services, doctors and staff at San Francisco General Hospital,” the statement concluded.
It’s unclear what Ricky’s recovery will look like in the coming weeks.
