Just days after composer and Broadway legend Andrew Lloyd Webber shared the heartbreaking news that his son, fellow composer Nicholas Lloyd Webber, had been diagnosed with gastric cancer, Andrew made another devastating statement.

“I am shattered to have to announce that my beloved elder son Nick died a few hours ago in Basingstoke Hospital,” Andrew began his statement. “His whole family is gathered together, and we are all totally bereft. Thank you for all your thoughts during this difficult time.”
Nicholas was just 43 years old.
Prior to his passing, Nicholas was nominated for a Grammy for best musical theater album for his work on Cinderella, which he worked on with his father.
According to Today, Nicholas was first diagnosed with gastric cancer a year and a half ago. It was only recently that Nicholas’s condition became critical, as Andrew revealed in his original statement on March 18.
As Andrew shared with their fans, Nicholas became critical and was moved into hospice care after also coming down with pneumonia as a result of his cancer.
Andrew’s most recent project Bad Cinderella recently, opened on Broadway just two days ago, on March 23. The legendary composer has not been in attendance as a result of Nicholas’s battle.

In addition to his parents and four siblings, Nicholas is also survived by his wife, Polly Wiltshire, whom he married in 2018.
According to the National Cancer Institute, “gastric cancer is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the lining of the stomach. Symptoms of gastric cancer include indigestion, stomach discomfort, or pain.”
