It has been nearly two years since Jana Kramer filed for divorce from former NFL tight end Mike Caussin. After several months in court, they agreed to co-parent their two children with Kramer being awarded primary custody (240 days out of the year) and Caussin being ordered to pay child support.
While co-parenting was difficult at first – especially considering the ‘inappropriate marital conduct, irreconcilable differences, and adultery’ Kramer cited in her divorce filing – it appears the former couple are now able to set their differences and past issues aside and do what’s best for their two children.
Kramer and Caussin started dating in 2014 and had a rocky start to their relationship, but were engaged by December 2014. They tied the knot in 2015 and had their first child – daughter Jolie Rae – in January 2016. Their second child – son Jace Joseph – was born in November 2018. The divorce came in 2021.

At the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards, Jana Kramer spoke briefly with PEOPLE about how co-parenting is going with Mike Caussin. She admitted that it wasn’t easy at first, but is really happy about where they are right now and applauded their ability to put their children first – after all, that’s what’s most important.
“We’re doing a really good job and I’m really proud of how we’re able to co-parent,” she said on the red carpet. “I think the first year was really tough, but I think now we’re able to put our issues aside and then just come together for the kids because, at the end of the day, they’re the most important things to us.”
Kramer has been divorced three times now (not including her failed engagement to Brantley Gilbert), but she isn’t ready to give up on love and is open to walking down the aisle again. She revealed as much at the iHeartRadio Music Awards as she made her red-carpet debut with her new boyfriend, Allan Russell.
“I’m happy. I’m in a great relationship. He’s a wonderful man, and I’ve got amazing, healthy kids. I’m blessed. I feel very blessed,” she said of her new boyfriend. “I’m in a new chapter, and it feels really nice. For the first time, I’m really embracing it, and I’m trying to sink in that I deserve this new chapter.”
Jana Kramer Opens Up About the Nashville Shooting
Another topic of discussion while on the red carpet was Monday’s tragic shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville. She doesn’t live in Nashville and her children don’t go to the school, but she does live in a small town just south of Nashville – she started building a home in Franklin, Tennessee earlier this year.
“Their dad picked them up at school, and they’re good,” Kramer said – adding that “a parent should never have to fear dropping their kid off at school and not knowing if they’re gonna pick them up.” And, while she’s a big believer in prayer, she admits that we need more than just Jesus – we need action, too.
While her children don’t go to the school, she does have ties to the school. “I know a teacher that was there, and then we have some friends that have kids — but they’re safe — that went there,” she said. The shooting occurred on the morning of March 27 and left six people – including three children – dead.
