Dax Shepard Says He’ll Be Open to His Daughters Experimenting With Shrooms, Weed, and Alcohol But Will Tell Them to Stay Away From the Hard Stuff

During an episode of his podcast, Armchair Expert, Dax Shepard, who shares his two daughters with his wife, Kristen Bell, admitted that there are some drugs he won’t be disappointed in his daughters for using.

While talking with his guest, Rob Lowe, the two successful actors got on the topic of drug abuse, addiction, and sobriety. Both Lowe and Shepard are years sober after finding themselves at low points in their respective lives.

However, while Lowe, who got sober at the age of 26, revealed that he did sit down with his now-adult sons for a chat about the dangers of drugs and alcohol, Shepards a little more openminded, even despite his own struggles with addiction. The dad of two explained that he is pro-certain psychedelic drugs.

“I am pro my children doing mushrooms at some point,” Shepard said. “Well, there’s a lot of different studies that have pretty conclusively shown that you have long-lasting creative advantages, right? People who have done mushrooms have markedly more creativity that lasts.”

The actor continued, saying, “So I guess I’m going to tell my girls to do shrooms and to smoke pot and to drink — and just don’t do cocaine or opiates. If you don’t do those two things, you’ll likely be able to do the other ones for the rest of your life.”

As of September 2018, Shepard has been 14 years sober. However, it’s unclear if Bell feels similarly about their daughters someday doing mushrooms, weed, and alcohol.

Lowe, on the other hand, isn’t as openminded. In fact, like himself, one of his sons, John Lowe, 25, is also sober. On April 1, John celebrated two years of sobriety on Instagram.

He wrote, in part, “I haven’t been vocal about my sobriety on here just because I felt it was something I wanted to keep personal, but I had a change of heart today. Two years in and I am more grateful than ever to have a community of support and friends who continue to build me up and hold me accountable.”

John added that he hoped by sharing his sobriety that it will encourage other young people to do the same. And Lowe couldn’t be prouder of his son, “I have never been more proud. Your hard work is an inspiration. Keep Coming Back.”
