As someone who was never really into skincare or makeup growing up, it’s funny what growing older will do to your skin and what you pick out when you look in the mirror. Between normal wear and tear and other uncontrollable factors, your skin begins to tell a story and while I’m a huge proponent of aging naturally, you can still do that gracefully, with the help of a few products and a skincare regimen.
Now, the regimen we are about to share with you is one that came to be through a lot of trial and error. No two skin types are the same. But this little road map toward soft, hydrated skin is meant to be a guide and a list of items you could try to see what works best for you! From dermaplaning and steaming to masking and moisturizing, we got a little bit of everything for you here. So find what works for you and start working towards the soft and beautiful skin we all dream of.
Step number one, find a makeup remover that you love! Out of all the wipes and cleansers I have tried in my day only one has stood out to me and that is the Micellar Cleansing Water for Sensitive Skin from La Roche-Posay. As something with extremely sensitive and dry skin, this cleansing water not only removes my makeup without stripping other oils off of my skin, but it leaves my face feeling so soft after using it.

Even when I’m not wearing makeup, I still start off my nighttime skincare routine with it. Now, I don’t do this step every single day. I do it about once every week or week and a half. It’s a technique called dermaplaning. It helps keep your skin free of little hairs so that your face feels smooth. It also makes your foundation and BB creams appear much smoother as well. However, like with any new addition to your skincare plan, if you have a dermatologist, it’s always best to discuss adding a step like this into your routine.
Now, there are many different dermaplaning tools available to you out there, from electric to manual. I personally prefer the manual tools because I feel like I have more control over them, but as with anything on this list, you have to find what works best for you! This is the tool I love using:

However, here is another option, as well:

And the perfect follow-up to dermaplaning is my next step, which is also my favorite step in my skincare routine, sitting in front of my steamer. There are so many facial steamers out there to choose from, but my personal favorite is the Aira Ionic Facial Steamer by Vanity Planet. Why steam my face? Well, it helps open your pores and loosen any buildup of dirt. So when you cleanse your face, your cleanser can work how it’s supposed to.

Before using the steamer I like to dap a hot wash cloth all over my face. Then, after steaming my face, I move on to a hydrating cleanser. My absolute favorite cleanser is the super calm gentle sensitive skin cleansing milk by TULA. I love this cleanser so much that I’ll actually cry if it ever gets discontinued. It’s purifying, hydrating, and filled with probiotics, colloidal oatmeal, aloe, ginger, and cucumber.

And according to TULA’s website, it’s perfect for all skin types. Another TULA product I love using once or twice a week after cleansing my face is their self-care sunday nourishing face mask. It’s also extremely gentle on your skin and gives it a bit of a refresher by adding in nutrients after a long week. Another great thing about this mask, in particular, is that it can be used as a mask and also as a serum by rubbing it into your skin.

And if I do plan on using it as a mask, I like to use this set from Amazon. The brush this bowl comes with layers on the mask just right and with the perfect about of thickness to really give your skin the nourishment it needs. It’s also perfect that if you put too much of the mask in the bowl, it comes with a lid so you can save it for later!

To remove the mask, you have the option to keep it on all night long, but I like using a warm washcloth to gently wipe away the excess before moving on to other products. Another amazing hydrating and purifying mask you can use every so often is this detoxifying mask from Meadow and Bark. It also helps brighten the skin, helping you get one step closer towards that glowing skin we are all searching for!

Another step I like to add in once or twice a week for putting on my oils and moisturizer on is using my microdermabrasion wand. This help suck out all the black heads and impurities that have come out during my skincare routine. However, because this is often harsh on your skin, it’s important not to do it too often.

Finally, to finish off my skincare routine, I put on this Super Glow serum by Glossier:

And this Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Water Gel by Neutrogena:

Then I lather up my lips with Aquaphor and off to bed I go!

I know this all may seem like a lot of steps, but it truly only takes up about 30 to 40 minutes of my night, depending on how long a stand in front of my steamer which is about seven minutes on average! It’s the “me” time I always crave after a long day.
And when it comes to my morning routine, I like to keep it very simple since my nighttime routine really covers all of the bases. The first thing I do is take a shower. If it’s the weekend, I’ll do a nice body scrub like this one from Meadow and Bark, which exfoliates, refines, and smooths.

Again, if it’s the weekend, I’ll then put on some body oil or a nice, thick moisturizer like these two products, also from Meadow and Bark.

And every morning after getting out of the shower, I’ll throw cold water on my face and add more of the Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Water Gel by Neutrogena to my face before rolling it in with this Rose Quartz Gua Sha Eye Roller by Meadow and Bark to get the blood flow pumping before putting on my makeup.

And there you have it! A skincare routine that will leave your skin soft, moisturized, and glowing like never before! Like we said earlier in the article, if you have known allergies or if you work with a dermatologist regularly, it’s important to run adding any new steps and products into your skincare routine by your doctor first. Otherwise, enjoy getting to know your skin and what works best for it!
