Fans of Ron Cephas Jones are heartbroken after news of his death has gone public.
Ron Cephas Jones is best known for his award-winning role as William Hill on NBC’s award-winning show This Is Us. According to People, Jones was 66 at the time of his passing.
In a statement shared by Jones’ representative, Jones passed away following a long illness. “Beloved and award-winning actor Ron Cephas Jones has passed away at the age of 66 due to a long-standing pulmonary issue,” the statement, given to People, began.
“Throughout the course of his career, his warmth, beauty, generosity, kindness, and heart were felt by anyone who had the good fortune of knowing him. He began his career at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe and his love for the stage was present throughout his entire career, including his recent Tony-nominated and Drama Desk Award-winning performance for his role in Clyde’s on Broadway.”
As the statement concluded, his team touched on how beautiful of a person Jones was. “Ron’s inner beauty and soul were evident to the huge audience from his multi-Emmy award-winning performance on This is Us. He is survived by his daughter Jasmine Cephas Jones.”
Jasmine is also a well-known award-winning actor who won her first Emmy in 2020, the same year her father won his second Emmy for his This Is Us role.
As People reports, Ron had been battling pulmonary issues for years. In 2020, he underwent a double lung transplant.
While talking with Entertainment Weekly in 2022 about his illness, Jones is quoted saying, “My whole life has been the stage. The idea of not performing again seemed worse to me than death.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with Jones’ loved ones during this particularly difficult time.
