Al Roker is sharing a bright spot in an otherwise difficult year.
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, over the year, Roker has been in and out of hospitals for various health reasons. Now he’s on the mend and celebrating his newest title with his family.
As we revealed on the Today Show and later on his Instagram page, Roker is officially a grandpa!
Alongside a photo of his beautiful new granddaughter, Al Roker wrote, “nd then this little girl came into my life. Welcome to the world, Sky Clara Laga.”
Roker continued, adding that he’s “in love all over again. Thank you, Courtney and Wes for such a perfect blessing. You baby is beautiful. Already planning the ways to spoil her and then hand her back.”
The weatherman’s Today Show crew were quick to share their congratulations in the comments section of his post. Savannah Guthrie wrote, “OH MY GOODNESS!! Welcome to the world, sweet girl! You have the best grandpa in the universe!!”
Willie Geist added, “Welcome to the party, Sky! Congrats to you, Courtney, Wes, Al, and Deborah!” And Carson Daly chimed in saying, “Welcome to the world SCL!!! Can’t wait to meet you.”
Jenna Bush Hager kept it simple by commenting a red heart emoji.
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, just several weeks ago, Roker underwent knee replacement surgery, the second in his lifetime.
“It’s Monday. I’m home from the hospital,” he told the Today Show crew. “Just another day!”
“This one is a little more complicated because it’s what they call a revision; it was a replacement of a replacement, so they had to take stuff out, put stuff in, so it was a bit of a bear,” Roker said. “So we’ve just been kind of hanging out. Chilling out, not doing anything — which I know a lot of people find hard to believe, but in fact, that is the case.”
And while the Roker family didn’t get to celebrate wife Deborah Roberts in the way they traditionally do for Mother’s Day, they were still able to all be together.
“I was being wildly optimistic that we were going to go to one of our [favorite restaurants], Daniel, for Mother’s Day, which is kind of our tradition. But that was not realistic, so we ordered in some quiche and some stuff and just had a nice meal in the backyard here,” Roker explained. “Which was nice because it was a gorgeous day yesterday.”
Ever since Roker has been focused on physical therapy and has since returned to the show! Now we know his focus is on something entirely different!
And we all know just how lucky baby Sky is to have Al as a grandpa!
