One Year After His Mother’s Death, Alec Baldwin is Vowing to ‘Continue the Work to Honor Her Legacy’

Alec Baldwin took to his Instagram to honor his mother’s legacy on the one-year anniversary of her death. She passed away on May 26, 2022 – leaving behind six children, 25 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren – and is remembered for her dedication to breast cancer awareness and research.

“Hard to believe it’s been one year since the matriarch of the Baldwin family passed. Many days it still can take our breath away, we miss her, but we continue the work to honor her legacy,” Alec said of his mother, Carol Baldwin – shouting out The Baldwin Fund and urging others to join them in their fight for change.

Alec went on to ask his followers to ‘help us carry on the mission she started, to love others, show compassion, and find a cure’ for breast cancer – a disease his mother battled and defeated in the 1990s. The Baldwin Fund was founded in 2001 and has provided 60+ grants to support research programs.

While announcing his mother’s death in May 2022, Alec Baldwin detailed his mother’s life story. Her breast cancer diagnosis came in 1991 and, while she was later deemed to be cancer-free, she decided to continue her fight against breast cancer for all those women out there struggling and suffering daily.

He went on to praise his mother for the work she did with SUNY Stony Brook in the aftermath of her cancer experience. “With the support of the university’s then president, Shirley Strum Kenny, the Carol M Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund was opened on the campus at Stony Brook,” Alec wrote in 2022.

Several years later, another chapter was formed with SUNY Upstate University and those efforts have helped raise millions of dollars for breast cancer research and awareness. “She spent the last 25 years of her life as a fighter and a champion for the cause to which she devoted so much energy,” Alec continued.

Adding to her legacy, Stony Brook Medicine’s Carol M. Baldwin Breast Care Center was opened in 1996 and is responsible for treating hundreds of breast cancer patients every single year. Not only that, but the center offers a survivorship program for those that have beaten the disease, but need further support.

Alec Baldwin Finds Himself in Hot Water

Alec Baldwin has had himself a rough past 19 months – starting with the tragedy that unfolded on the set of Rust on October 21, 2021. While filming a scene, Baldwin was holding what he thought was a prop gun when he accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins – the gun turned out to be real.

He was initially charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter, but those charges were dropped in April 2023 – allowing Baldwin to begin the process of moving forward with the traumatic experience. Following the tragic accident, he reportedly told his wife he didn’t want to be a public person anymore.

More recently, Alec Baldwin found himself in hot water when he allegedly scolded a waitress at the 2023 PEN America Spring Literary Gala on May 18. The waitress was starting to put plates on the table Alec was standing near – he was talking to someone, at the time – but he appeared to take exception to it.

“I’m guessing he felt it was rude of her to start putting plates down while he was standing there,” one source speculated – adding that the waitress was confused as to why he yelled at her. Nonetheless, it was a rather quick exchange and appeared to go unnoticed by other attendees, but not everyone!
