Alec Baldwin Walking Around With a Cane Following ‘Incredibly Painful’ Hip Surgery

Alec Baldwin was seen walking around with a cane on Friday (June 9) as he recovers from hip surgery. The 65-year-old actor had the operation on May 30 and will likely need the cane for at least a few more weeks – until he regains his strength, stability, balance, and will. For now, he’s just happy to be active.

He was using the cane to support the left side of his body – the same side he was operated on. He paired the metal cane with a black blazer (which he was holding, not wearing), a navy blue button-down shirt, a  black t-shirt, navy blue pants, and black loafers. This is the first we’ve seen him since the hip surgery.

The surgery was revealed by Baldwin’s wife, Hilaria Baldwin, on May 30 – posting a photo of her in a hospital bed with her husband. She described the surgery as ‘necessary’ and sent her gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, and staff ‘who so generously are bringing him safely through this’ difficult time.

“Alec got a new hip today – it was a long time necessary. We have been through so much together – as your partner and as you heal, I want so very much for you to leave this very intense chronic pain chapter behind and improve your quality of life,” Hilaria Baldwin wrote. “And you. Thanks to you,” Alec replied.

On June 4 – five days after his hip surgery – Alec Baldwin posted a video on Instagram. He discussed the surgery and why he decided to do it now, noting that he had his left hip done in 2018 (five years ago) and had his right hip done 5 days ago. It’s a surgery he has needed for several years, but hasn’t had the time.

“I didn’t have the time to do it work-wise or schedule-wise. I didn’t have 4-6 weeks to limit myself that way,” he continued – adding that he was limping around for years prior. “Or my glucose issues affected that, so it was very tough. We would line up a date to do the surgery and I would fail my blood sugar test.”

He wasn’t shy about how ‘incredibly painful’ the surgery was, adding that the pain ‘goes away gradually.’ With that said, he understands the surgery was worth it and will relieve him of further damage as he grows older. “But as we keep saying in my house, ‘It’s the pain that’s going to end the pain,’” he said.

What Else is New With Alec Baldwin?

Alec Baldwin undergoing hip surgery comes just a few weeks after the actor became a first-time grandfather. His eldest daughter, 27-year-old Ireland Baldwin (who he shares with Kim Basinger), gave birth to her first child with boyfriend André Allen Anjos (known professionally as RAC) on May 18.

On May 19, Alec Baldwin took to Instagram to share a throwback photo of him and Ireland, who was just a few years old in the photo. “My first baby had her first baby. Much love to the three of you!” he wrote in the caption. His wife, Hilaria Baldwin, also took to Instagram to share a photo of their large family.

“All of these aunties and uncles and us grandparents are so excited that Holland is here! Congratulations to the mama and papa, Ireland and Andre. We love you so very much!” she wrote of Ireland welcoming her first child. Of course, let’s not forget Alec and Hilaria welcomed their seventh child in September 2022.
