More than one year after his wife and son were murdered on June 7, 2021, Alex Murdaugh has been indicted for their deaths.
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Murdaugh’s wife, Maggie, and their son, Paul were found shot dead in their home. Original reports shared that the guns that killed Paul and Maggie were different.
Additionally, it was revealed that in the days leading up to their untimely deaths, Maggie had met with divorce lawyers. It was Murdaugh himself who reported the murders to police, claiming he allegedly found their bodies around 10 p.m. after being out of the house.
Alex Murdaugh Indicted on Murder Charges for the Deaths of His Wife and Son
Now, Murdaugh has been indicted in those killings. According to CNN, the former attorney was indicted on “two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.”
A source with knowledge of the investigation told CNN that blood splatter found on his clothes could place Murdaugh at the scene of the crime. More so, it could place Murdaugh in close contact with at least one of the victims as they were murdered.
According to CNN, a phone belonging to Paul Mudaugh was recovered at the scene. It contained video and audio of Alex talking with Maggie close to the time she and Paul were killed. Alex is not seen in the video, but his voice is allegedly heard.
Just three months after Maggie and Paul were killed, Murdaugh survived a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators later determined the shooting was staged.
Investigators believed it was a ploy for Alex to get his hands on his $10 life insurance policy. “The murders of my wife and son have caused an incredibly difficult time in my life,” Murdaugh said in a statement at the time.
“I have made a lot of decisions that I truly regret. I’m resigning from my law firm and entering rehab after a long battle that has been exacerbated by these murders.”
Murdaugh now faces a slew of charges. As Mamas Uncut previously reported, he has already been charged with conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and filing a false police report.
Additionally, he has also been charged with two counts of obtaining property by false pretenses, a felony with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. This charge is in connection with his former housekeeper’s 2018 death.
As The Times reports, the charges are the result of a “settlement that Alex and his insurers reached with his housekeeper’s sons” after she suffered a brain hemorrhage due to a fall.
