In an adorable snap shared on her Instagram, comedian and new mom Amy Schumer shared that she has all the feels about heading back to work.
Schumer has (mostly) been taking time off since she and husband Chris Fischer welcomed son Gene on May 5th. In the sweet picture Schumer is shown relaxing on the couch with Gene snuggled in her arms, both have their eyes closed and only their dog, Tati is awake and looking at the camera. Schumer captioned the pic: “back to work this week. Feeling like ???????????????? ” Basically, Schumer is like every mom!
Throughout her pregnancy and maternity leave, Schumer has been very candid about the trials and triumphs of growing and caring for a brand new human.
During her pregnancy, Schumer suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum, a debilitating pregnancy complication characterized by severe nausea and vomiting. (Kate Middleton famously suffered through this as well with each of her three pregnancies.)
The condition often doesn’t resolve until the baby is born, which is what happened in Schumer’s case — so basically she was nauseas every day for 9 months.
After Gene Attell Fischer was born, Schumer continued to document the less glamorous parts of new motherhood, sharing pics while wearing hospital mesh underwear and while pumping.
Schumer hopped back on the comedy scene two weeks after giving birth to do a comedy set and the reaction from some was … less than supportive. Some felt that Schumer was heading back to work way too soon.
This post, which garnered more than 5,000 comments, had some people shaking their heads and mom shaming Schumer for daring to leave her baby for a few hours. But Schumer, as always, had the last word, killing the critics with kindness.
In the pic, taken by sister-in-law Molly Fischer, Schumer sends her love to “the moms shaming me for doing stand up last night!” Since that night, Schumer has mostly been spending quality time with her husband and Gene, sharing the occasional sweet baby pic with her fans along the way.
Now that Schumer is heading back to work — which we can’t deny, we’re very excited about! —she’s squeezing in some final daytime naps and QT with Gene. And getting lots of support in the process.
We know that Schumer has all the feels about heading back to work, but we wish you all the best, Amy, and can’t wait to see you back at it.
