In an effort to find a breast pump that worked best for her, one mom reached out to Mamas Uncut’s Facebook group to inquire what other moms have used in the past. And other moms did what they could to help her out.
While many of them revealed that they also have bigger breasts and offered her the type of breast pump they used, other moms offered their own sage advice to help the mom who is on the journey of finding the perfect pump for her.
“What are the best breast pumps for large breasted mothers? I have a five-year-old and I am 20 weeks pregnant; I remember having a lot of latching issues with my daughter due to my breast size (42DDD/ now 46G) that resulted in only pumping, and I completely switched to formula around month 3 because the pump I had was very uncomfortable/ didn’t work well and I pumped more with a hand pump. I would really like to pump longer this time around.”
Here are the four breast pumps the moms liked the most:
Medela NEW Pump In Style with MaxFlow Double Electric Breast Pump
$199.99 at the time of publication
“I had better results with the Medela In Style Advanced pumps than the Spectra s2. Even the Medela hand pump could get more out than the s2 on its strongest settings. I highly suggest going to see a lactation consultant and getting the proper shield for your nipples. That helps the most! (I’m a 40 F).”
Spectra S2 Plus Hospital Strength Double Electric Breast Pump
$159.99 at the time of publication
“Spectra 2!!! Hands down!!! I rented a hospital grade pump (after trying multiple store bought) 7 years ago when I had my son. I was in awe how great a hospital grade worked compared to store bought that is until I used the spectra 3 years ago with my daughter! Omg! It was amazing and worked way better than anything I had tried before, which was a lot.”
Philips Avent Double Electric Breast Pump
$199.99 at the time of publication
“I used the Avent pump. Was very comfortable. Just sucked that I never got enough milk to feed my baby, so I had to make the heartbreaking switch. I wish you the best!”
PiAEK Portable Breast Feeding Pumps
$29.99 at the time of publication
“I’m a 38h, I don’t really pump much because my baby refuses to drink the pumped milk so it’s all breast for me but I bought just a cheap simple pump. It worked really well and was really comfortable I just got fed up of wasting milk.”
And a few other moms gave some of their best advice. “Contact your local lactation consultant,” one person wrote. “They can tell you where to rent a breast pump. I rented mine from the pharmacy at the hospital that can pump both sides at one time.”
“The pump is not dependent on breast size, it depends on what your body reacts to,” another mom wrote. “Also find a good location consultant, breast size is not a reason for latch issues. Just find someone that is on your side and can educate you to be successful in your journey.”
