Bradley Cooper Gets Honest About the First Time He Met His Daughter: ‘I don’t even know if I really love the kid’

Bradley Cooper is getting honest about the first few months of his life after welcoming his only child into the world.

Cooper and his ex-girlfriend model Irina Shayk first welcomed their baby girl, Lea, into the world in March 2017. Now 7 years old, Cooper and Lea are two peas in a pod.

Bradley Cooper and his daughter even graced the red carpet together in February for Cooper’s new movie, Maestro, which earned him several nominations.

But as Cooper told Dax Shepard, he wasn’t always this in sync with his little girl. While a guest on Shepard’s podcast Armchair Expert, Cooper got candid, admitting he struggled to initially connect with Lea when she was a newborn baby.

“If I’m being honest, the first eight months, I’m like, ‘I don’t even know if I really loved the kid,’” he explained.

“It’s dope. It’s cool. I’m watching this thing morph … fascinated by it. Love taking care of it. Would I die if someone came in with a gun? I don’t know.”

Eventually, however, something clicked for Cooper, revealing all of a sudden he realized that he would, in fact, die for his daughter. “No question.”

“Your DNA is going to tell you that there’s something more important than you.”

Dax’s co-host, Monica Padman praised Cooper for his “honesty.” Padman believes a lot of parents feel the same way Cooper did early on in parenting, but are too afraid to admit it.
