Britney Spears has some choice words for Christina Aguilera.
Recently, Spears called out Aguilera for not speaking up about the abuse she suffered during her 13-year conservatorship.
In an interview with the Associated Press on the red carpet at the 22nd Annual Latin Grammys on November 19, Aguilera was asked by a reporter if she’s had any communication with Spears now since her conservatorship has ended.
The singer seems to look back at her publicist next to her who interrupts the interview saying, “We’re not doing that tonight. I’m sorry. Thank you though. Bye!”
Aguilera frowns and replies, “I can’t, but I’m happy for her,” before she is escorted away from the press line. Spears quickly posted to Instagram to post her grievances with Aguilera’s response.
“I LOVE AND ADORE EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTED ME…BUT REFUSING TO SPEAK WHEN YOU KNOW THE TRUTH, IS EQUIVALENT TO A LIE !!!!,” she captioned the Aguilera interview clip in her Instagram Story.
“13 YEARS BEING IN A CORRUPT ABUSIVE SYSTEM YET WHY IS IT SUCH A HARD TOPIC FOR PEOPLE TO TALK ABOUT ??? I’M THE ONE WHO WENT THROUGH IT !!!! ALL THE SUPPORTERS WHO SPOKE UP AND SUPPORTED ME THANK YOU…YES I DO MATTER !!!!!”
However, after Spears’ bombshell testimony this past June about the abuse she says she endured during her conservatorship, Aguilera did post a childhood photo of the pair together on social media with a statement that read, in part:
“To a woman who has worked under conditions and pressure unimaginable to most, I promise you she deserves all of the freedom possible to live her happiest life. My heart goes out to Britney. She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world.”
Britney’s long-time agent and friend, Cade Hudson spoke out this summer in Britney’s defense, posting to Twitter what he had witnessed over the many years working with the star.
“I’ve kept my mouth shut for 12 + years on Britney. Enough is enough,” Cade wrote in an Instagram caption, quoted by TMZ. “After getting thousands of death threats, getting water bottles thrown at my head in bars from bystanders telling me I’m brainwashing [Britney] l’m now speaking up,” Cade began.
“Britney who was accused of some errors as a new mom at 26 with 100 cameras in her face daily waiting to document any wrong move she did gets placed under a never-ending conservatorship? Sexism at its best,” he continued. He went on to reveal how the conservatorship was “a violation of someone’s basic human rights,” before alluding to being threatened into silence by Britney’s father and co-conservator, Jamie Spears.
“I’ve kept my mouth shut out of the fear of losing my job as her agent and losing the career I worked my a** off for 15 years to build, out of threats from the man we all know who, but I won’t even dignify mentioning his name,” he wrote. “I’m officially done being quiet.”
