Britney Spears’ estranged father, Jamie Spears, has been hospitalized for weeks as he continues to recover from a bacterial infection. Page Six was first to report the news after two of their inside sources close to the family confirmed that the 71-year-old was severely ill at one point, but is now on the mend.
“Jamie has been suffering with a bad infection that has required surgery. He has been hospitalized for weeks in a special infectious disease facility,” one of their sources said. Jamie was also hospitalized in August after dealing with complications from a knee replacement surgery he had done in the mid-2000s.
Doctors initially thought something was wrong with Jamie’s kidneys when he was hospitalized in August, but they later determined he had developed an infection in his knees. At the time, Jamie had lost nearly 25 pounds as he was in and out of medical care – eventually undergoing surgery to clear the infection.

Jamie Spears has dealt with a number of health problems in the past. He was rushed to a Las Vegas area hospital in November 2018 when he ‘spontaneously ruptured’ his colon. He ended up being hospitalized for 28 days and underwent immediate emergency surgery to remove the diseased segment of the colon.
“I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family,” Britney Spears wrote in a statement in 2018 – adding her father is expected to make a full recovery as he recovers at home. “We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me.”
By January 2019, Britney Spears announced that she would be taking a break from music and performing in an effort to spend more time with her family. Of course, this was before her relationship with her father went downhill – as it has done numerous times since she was placed under a conservatorship in 2008.
That conservatorship came to an end in 2021 and her father was removed from his role as her estate conservator. She has made a number of allegations and accusations against her father over the past few years and is preparing to tell her side of the story in a new memoir – The Woman in Me – on October 24.
Britney Spears’ Father Didn’t Go To Rehab Over the Summer
Page Six was in the mood to break news on Thursday (Oct. 5). Not only did they break the story about Jamie Spears being hospitalized with a bacterial infection, but they refuted a Daily Mail report (which was published on Oct. 4) that claimed Jamie was an alcoholic and had checked into rehab earlier this year.
The exclusive report says Jamie has been living with his youngest daughter, Jamie Lynn Spears, after yet another failed stint at rehab. They claim he completed a 30-day program in July before moving in with Jamie Lynn in her newly-built home in Louisiana, where he has continued to drink in the months since.
According to Page Six, that report is false – though they don’t clarify which part of the report is false (or if all of it is false). What we do know is that Jamie Spears has struggled with his drinking in the past and it was a major revelation in a 2008 memoir written by Lynne Spears (his ex-wife). They divorced in 2002.

Britney Spears has had a rough relationship with her family over the past few decades. Sources say she’s currently not speaking to any of her family members – including her mother, father, sister, and brother. Now that she and her husband, Sam Asghari, are divorced, her inner circle is growing extremely small.
