According to Britney Spears’ makeup artist Spears still doesn’t have a lot of control over her personal life due to the conservatorship she has been under since 2008. While a guest on the Calababes podcast, celebrity makeup artist Maxi told the hosts that Spears isn’t allowed to marry her boyfriend of four years, nor is she allowed to expand her family.

Spears has two children from her second marriage to Kevin Federline. Sean Preston is 15 years old and Jayden is 14.

Spears is currently in a relationship with personal trainer Sam Asghari, whom she’s been dating since 2016. But even if they wanted to take their relationship to the next level, according to Maxi, the singer wouldn’t be able to.

“I can tell you what they’re still controlling to this day is whether she has a baby or not, whether she gets married or not, who her friends are, and those are some big things,” Maxi said, according to US Magazine. In fact, the cosmetologist went as far as to compare Spears’ current lifestyle to Netflix’s popular thriller-drama Handmaid’s Tale.

“We’re talking about some Handmaid’s Tale-type things to keep her from having a baby. Like, we’re talking … I can’t detail it and I’m not gonna specifically say, but I will say for sure, she would’ve had a baby by now. She would’ve probably been married to Sam by now. She would have groups of friends around her.”

As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Spears and her conservatorship have been the subject of many headlines over the last few months. As a result of that and due to her interesting activity on Instagram, a campaign now known as #FreeBritney has become very popular. And what Maxi had to say about it is sure to only add fuel to the fire.

Spears conservatorship will continue until at least February 2021. It’s unclear if her father will then be reinstated as her primary conservator after relinquished that responsibly to the singer’s manager Jodie Montgomery while he was struggling with his own health issues.

However, having her father as her conservator again is something Spears’ lawyers say she’s adamantly against. The reason why she is “strongly opposed” remains unclear.

Britney Spears’ fans remain concerned for her wellbeing as she posted two videos last week that many described as “unnatural” and not normal. Since posting those videos, the 38-year-old has remained inactive on social media.
