As Mamas Uncut previously reported on September 29, Judge Brenda Penny immediately suspended Jamie Spears as the conservator of Britney Spears’ estate. Now, certified public accountant John Zabel has been appointed as the temporary conservator of her estate.
During yesterday’s court hearing, Britney Spears was not present at the hearing, nor did she call in. However, based on her fiancé’s brief statement shared on his Instagram story, they couldn’t be happier with the ruling.
“Free Britney,” Sam Asghari wrote. “Congratulations,” he then added.
Immediately following the ruling, Britney also took to Instagram to share a video of herself flying an airplane for the very first time. “On cloud 9 right now!!!! First time flying a plane and my first time in a prop plane!!! Geez, I was scared,” Britney captioned the video. “Psssst bringing the ship home, JL. Stay classy, beautiful people !!!! New pics coming soon!!!!”
As BuzzFeed reported, it’s believed that the line about bringing the ship home was a subtle, yet direct, dig at her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears. You see, according to the report, two days ago, Jamie Lynn shared a photo of her daughter’s softball team after they won a championship.
The mom wrote, “took home the [ship emoji].” Jamie’s Instagram bio also consists of just her first two initials, “JL”. And fans were quick to draw those connections.
However, while his daughter is thrilled with how things are progressing in her conservatorship which she has previously described as “abusive,” Jamie Spears revealed in his own statement that this wasn’t just a loss for him but a loss for Britney as well.
Jamie Spears Calls Britney Spears’ Latest Court Hearing a Loss
“For 13 years, [Jamie Spears] has tried to do what is in [Britney Spears’] best interests, whether as a conservator or her father,” Vivian Thoreen, attorney for Jamie Spears, said in a statement. “Respectfully, the court was wrong to suspend Mr. Spears, put a stranger in his place to manage Britney’s estate, and extend the very conservatorship that Britney begged the court to terminate earlier this summer.”
“These facts make the outcome of yesterday’s hearing all the more disappointing, and frankly, a loss for Britney. Despite the suspension, Mr. Spears will continue to look out for the best interests of his daughter and work in good faith towards a positive resolution of all matters,” Thoreen added.
This statement is interesting considering Jamie had made earlier statements saying that he would step down as conservator when the time is right. Additionally, a court date has been set for November 12, as Britney’s lawyer Mathew Rosengart said in his own statements, “The goal today was to suspend Jamie Spears. That’s what today was about. … We expect the ultimate termination will be … this fall — specifically by Nov. 12, which is the next hearing date.”
