Damian Lewis Remembers Wife ‘Harry Potter’ Actress Helen McCrory as a Mom Who Prepared Her Kids For Live

Following a harrowing battle with cancer, actress Helen McCrory, best known for her role in the Harry Potter films and in Peaky Blinders, has passed away at the age of 52. Following her passing, her beloved husband, actor Damian Lewis, issued a statement to The Sunday Times.

In the statement, Lewis opened up about his “brilliant” wife’s life. However, while Helen was a brilliant actor, Lewis opted to talk about Helen as a person, calling her an even more “brilliant person than she was an actress.”

“She was a people person, sure. ‘I’m much more interested in who I’m with than where I am,’ she would say, and innately wanted to share. But she also lived by the principle of kindness and generosity. That you put these things out into the world to make it better, to make people feel better.”

Lewis added that he “never known anyone able to enjoy life as much” as Helen did. He then went on to talk about his wife as a mother.

Lewis and McCrory shared two children together, 14-year-old Manon and 13-year-old Culliver. As the husband and father wrote, his children lost their mother too soon, but that she has prepared them for life.

“They have in them the fearlessness, wit, curiosity, talent and beauty of their mother. She has exhorted us to be courageous and not afraid.”

Lewis went on to say that he misses McCrory already, calling her heroic in her battle with cancer, as well as generous, brave, uncomplaining, and funny. “She has shone more brightly in the last months than you would imagine even the brightest star could shine. In life, too, we had to rise to meet her.”

“I’m staggered by her,” the husband said of his wife. “She’s been a meteor in our life.” Lewis and McCrory were married for 14 years.
