Grammy Winner Arrested At the Awards Show

Update: Rapper Killer Mike has released a statement to NBC News after he was arrested at the Grammys.

“I greatly appreciate the concern and support, but I am better than OK. As you can imagine, there was a lot going and there was some confusion around which door my team and I should enter,” Mike explained. “We experienced an over-zealous security guard but my team and I have the utmost confidence that I will ultimately be cleared of all wrongdoing.”

Mike concluded his statement, adding, “Until that time, keep listening to ‘Michael,’ and keep going after your dreams.”

Just moments after winning three Grammys, rapper Killer Mike was detained at the award show and taken into custody.

According to several reports, despite enjoying his big moment, the activist was reportedly involved in a physical altercation. He was charged with misdemeanor battery.

The rapper was released later that evening and according to his lawyers, went straight to celebrating his victories. “He’s out and will be celebrating his sweep tonight,” Variety reports.

TMZ reports that Killer Mike got physical with a security officer at the Grammys, knocking the guard down.

After winning his Grammys, Mike told reporters backstage, “At 20 years old, I thought it was cool to be a drug dealer. At 40, I started to live with the regrets and the things I’ve done. At 45, I started to rap about it. At 48, I stand here as a man full of empathy and sympathy for the things I’ve done.”

Despite being active on social media last night, after his arrest, Killer Mike did not address his arrest.
