At seven months pregnant, Singer Grimes revealed why she and Elon Musk haven’t announced the gender of their first child together. Or why they decided to hold off on sharing the name they choose.
At the time, Grimes told her fans that “I don’t want to say the gender of the baby … because I feel like their privacy should be protected. I don’t think they can consent to being famous or being in public.”
“And I don’t want to gender them in case that’s not how they feel in their life. I don’t know, I just feel like it doesn’t need to be known,” the new mom continued. “I have a name for the baby, but I don’t want to say what it is because everyone I’ve told it hates it, and everyone’s gonna make fun of it. But it is, in fact, a genius name, and people just don’t appreciate it yet because it’s too avant-garde.”
Now, after Musk and Grimes welcomed their child into the world, that avant-garde name has been revealed.
On May 4, while active on Twitter, Musk was asked by a follower if there was any baby news to be delivered. That’s when the now dad of five revealed that he and Grimes were “a few hours away” from meeting their child.
The proud father then went on to not only share the name, but the baby’s gender, and eventually a photo.
According to his tweets, the Tesla creator and Grimes are the parents to a beautiful little boy, who they named X Æ A-12 Musk. The pronunciation of the very unique moniker remains up for debate.
And while the first public photo of X Æ A-12 Musk was filtered, Musk eventually shared one of him and his boy hanging out in the hospital.
While the new mom never went into a lot of detail, Grimes did say that she experienced complications early on in her pregnancy. “[I] had some complications early on, a decent second trimester but starting to hurt everywhere at 25 [weeks]. I feel like I was woefully ill-prepared cuz I dunno if pregnancy is as visible or discussed as it should be. I just didn’t [really] understand what I was getting into.”
Thankfully, Elon’s short and sweet updates prove that Grimes and X Æ A-12 are “all good.” Grimes herself has yet to open up about her birthing experience.
