Having an ultrasound and getting to see your baby for the first time is an incredibly exciting life event. Unfortunately for one soon-to-be mom, the ultrasound revealed more about her husband than she’d anticipated. The mom-to-be posted on a Reddit forum that her husband wanted her to get an abortion after he found out that they would be having a baby girl. It’s common for fathers to want boys and mothers to want girls, but this was extreme.
She watched as her husband’s face changed the moment he heard the news.
As you can see from the post, he’s not exactly husband of the year. She had to beg him to come to the ultrasound appointment and when they got there, he wasn’t supportive. In fact, he made them leave the appointment early.
“He just went silent,” she said in the post. “And then he made me leave my appointment early.”
“I tried to object,” she continued, “but he grabbed my arm really hard and told me that we’re going home.”
The couple got in their car and she asked her husband what was wrong. “He told me he wants me to have an abortion,” she admitted. “I asked him why and he told me he doesn’t want a girl so I’ll get an abortion and we’ll try again for a boy.”
She refused the notion and his reply will send chills down your spine. “Yeah, We’ll see,” he said.
No matter what she said, he still demanded a son.
After telling her husband that he could not force her to abort the baby or get pregnant again, he said, “You have two options honey you can have your girl and get pregnant again right after and pray that it’s a boy or you can do it the easy way and get an abortion right now.”
After she started to cry, he squeezed her ‘painfully tight.’ And now, she doesn’t know what to do.
“I don’t know why he would put me in this position,” she posted. “I can only hope that he calms down and lets it go, but I don’t think that will happen. My friends would never understand and I just can’t bring myself to talk to my father or my brothers about this.”
She hoped the community could offer her some advice.
Reddit users told her that his behavior bordered on abuse.
Many users on Reddit responded to the viral post, telling the woman that she could potentially be in danger and that her husband’s behavior seemed abusive.
“You should be packing your bags and leaving,” the commenter wrote. “This is abusive behavior. This is not someone who’s just disappointed, this is someone who is dangerous. You and your baby do not need or deserve to live under this kind of stress.”
“This doesn’t sound crazy — it sounds like reproductive coercion,” another posted. “Coupled with your husband physically harming you by grabbing and squeezing you with the intent to hurt you. This is abuse.”
After reading the responses to the post, the mother decided to change her situation. It would be difficult, but she needed to keep herself safe.
“I will leave him,” she wrote. “I really don’t want to but I know that I have to.”
Let’s hope that she found a safe place for her and her baby to thrive. If you or anyone you know is dealing with abuse or is in danger, contact the National Domestic Abuse Hotline.
