2020 has been wildly all-over-the-place, so you may have missed Iggy Azalea concealing a pregnancy and quietly delivering a son last month. We can’t blame you. A lot is going on. But it did happen: The Australian rapper is now a first-time mom!
And though Iggy is already on record as saying she does not intend to share a lot of personal information about her baby with the public, we do now know one thing we didn’t before: her son’s name.

Iggy Azalea reveals her baby son’s name after secretly giving birth earlier this year.
In an Instagram post shared Tuesday, July 14, Iggy uploaded a brief audio clip of herself and her son. The text on the thumbnail of the post reads “Amethyst and Onyx.” Given that Iggy’s real name is Amethyst Kelly, it is a safe assumption that Onyx is her son’s name. (Iggy confirmed it herself in the comments in response to a fan who said, “Your names sound so good together omg.” Iggy responded, “We besties forever.”)
In the audio clip, Iggy can be heard saying “Baby boy, are you going to say something to me?,” at which point Onyx begins cooing while his mom giggles.
According to E!, earlier this week, a rumor circulated that Iggy had named her son — wait for it! — Gilbert, which caused Iggy to issue a denial.
“I’m okay with y’all joking ‘n all but let it be known I didn’t name my child that. Lmao,” Iggy said, according to Daily Mail. We have to say we think Onyx is a more fitting name for a child of Iggy Azalea than Gilbert, though both are great names.
Little else is known about Onyx or Iggy’s life as a mom. Rumors suggest she gave birth in April after concealing her pregnancy entirely. No photos of Onyx — or of Iggy pregnant, for that matter — have been shared, officially or otherwise.
It has been reported that Onyx’s father is rapper Playboi Carti, whom Iggy has been dating sometime in 2018.

Aside from today’s big name reveal, Iggy has only issued one statement following the birth of her son. In June, about two months after it is rumored that she gave birth, she gave official confirmation that she is, in fact, a mom.
“I have a son,” Iggy wrote in an Instagram story at the time. “I kept waiting for the right time to say something but it feels like the more time passes the more I realize I’m always going to feel anxious to share news that giant with the world. I want to keep his life private but wanted to make it clear he is not a secret. And I love him beyond words.”
We respect Iggy’s desire for privacy for her and her growing family, and we wish them all nothing but health, happiness, and some sleep, if they’re lucky.
