The Ace Ventura actor divulged his retirement information after he was asked about recent comments made about him by Dolly Parton. The country music legend said that she wanted Carrey to play her former music partner Porter Wagoner in a Parton biopic.

Apparently, Parton’s comments were news to Carrey. “Well, that’s a lovely thing,” he replied, “but I’m retiring.”

The actor was asked about the seriousness of those comments, he’s obviously no stranger to cracking a joke or two. “I’m being fairly serious, yeah,” he told the outlet.

What might bring Carrey out of retirement? “If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road but I’m taking a break,” he said of potential future acting projects.

Carrey, who spends his days painting and creating art these days, explained that he’s enjoying his “quiet” and uneventful life.

“I really like my quiet life and I really like putting paint on canvas and I really love my spiritual life and I feel like, and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists, I have enough,” he shared. “I’ve done enough. I am enough.”

In addition to talking about the movie he’s doing press for, The Mask actor spoke about his late friend Bob Saget. Carrey said that he was in attendance for the celebrity-packed memorial service for the Full House actor.

“It was a very lovely night,” Carrey said of the memorial. “I’m not sure why everything has to turn into a Netflix special. I think that’s a little strange.”

Producer Mike Binder recently said that the taped Bob Saget memorial celebration had been sold to Netflix for an upcoming special, Deadline reports.

Following Saget’s death, Carrey took to Twitter to share a tribute to his friend. “Beautiful Bob Saget passed away today at 65,” the tweet reads. “He had a big, big heart and a wonderfully warped comic mind. He gave the world a lot of joy and lived his life for goodness’ sake.”
