In an interview with E! News on Wednesday, John Legend revealed the meaning and origin of his newest daughter’s name – Esti Maxine. It’s a name that’s deeply tied to his family, but it wasn’t exactly intended that way. In fact, it wasn’t even his idea to name the baby Esti – it was his wife, Chrissy Teigen.
“It turns out my great-grandmother was named Esther. It wasn’t intentionally after someone, but once Chrissy told me that idea, I was like, ‘Oh, my great-grandmother’s name was Esther,'” said Legend. What was nothing more than a name his wife liked that actually turned out to be a tribute to his great-grandmother!
“We wanted to already name her middle name Maxine after my grandmother, whose middle name was Maxine. So, it’s a lot of my family in the name,” he explained further. Not only does his daughter’s name honor his great-grandmother, but also his grandmother. What a special name for a special little baby.

The baby was born on January 13; John Legend announced it at a concert. And if the name is any indication, Esti Maxine has a bright future ahead. The name ‘Esther’ means ‘star,’ and the name ‘Maxine’ means ‘greatest’ – it looks like we have the greatest little star being born right in front of our eyes!
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are now a family of five. The power couple started dating sometime in 2006 – they met on the set of one of his music videos. They got engaged five years later and enjoyed a lavish wedding in Italy on September 14, 2013. Since then, they’ve had two daughters and one son.
Their first daughter – Luna Simone – was born in April 2016 and will be turning seven years old in a few months. Their only son – Miles Theodore – was born two years later in May 2018 and will be turning five years old in a few months. And then Esti Maxine was welcomed to the family just a few weeks ago.
“She’s here! Esti Maxine Stephens – the house is bustling, and our family could not be happier. Daddy sheds nightly tears of joy seeing Luna and Miles so full of love, and I am learning you still need diapers with a c-section!? We are in bliss,” said Chrissy Teigen in an Instagram caption on January 19th.
John Legend Launches New Unisex Skincare Line
Outside of being a father of three, John Legend is keeping himself busy – after all, this is someone who performed a concert the night after his daughter was born. But his latest project had nothing to do with his music. He recently celebrated the launch of his new unisex skincare line formulated for people of color.
The website talks about how most brands aren’t formulated to address the unique needs of people of color, which inspired him to create a skincare line that does just that. The skincare line is called Loved01, was launched about a week ago, and is available now for those that want to take better care of their skin.
“Far too often, those skin types are ignored or understudied, under-researched when it comes to developing and formulating skincare products. And so, we all felt that was a gap that needed to be addressed and that we could create a new product whose mission was to address that gap and to do it in a way that was really accessible and affordable for people,” he said of his skincare line.
