Katharine McPhee and David Foster Reunite Onstage for First Time Since Family Tragedy Two Weeks Ago

Earlier this week, Katharine McPhee took to the stage for the first time since her family’s tragedy two weeks ago – performing songs by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons with fellow singer, Erich Bergen, while her husband, David Foster, played the piano. It was good to see them performing together again.

Erich Bergen took to Instagram to share three videos of the performance – which also featured The London Essentials, an inimitable party band from Great Britain. While the videos didn’t have sound, we can only imagine how good the performance was and how excited the fans were to see McPhee back.

Bergen also took to his Instagram Story to share another video of him and Katharine McPhee performing the song ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ by Frankie Valli. It was apparently a ‘white night’ as everyone – including McPhee, Foster, Bergen, the band, and audience members – were dressed in white attire.

Andy Gelb, a businessman and publicist, was one of the lucky ones in attendance and posted a series of photos and videos of the event on his Instagram. One of the videos showed Katharine McPhee singing a song with Andrea Bocelli, an Italian tenor who was born with congenital glaucoma and is now fully blind.

Another video showed Katharine McPhee standing by her husband playing the piano while Pia Toscano masterfully performed a song. Toscano is a talented singer who appeared on Season 10 of American Idol – for those who don’t remember, McPhee was the runner-up on the 5th season of American Idol.

On August 10, Katharine McPhee took to Instagram to share that she would have to miss the final two shows of her David Foster & Friends Asia Tour 2023 – which took place at the Sentul International Convention Centre in Jakarta, Indonesia. Her husband, David Foster, continued on with the tour.

She was forced to pull out due to a ‘horrible tragedy’ in the family and, while she didn’t elaborate any further at the time, it was later revealed that their son’s nanny, Yadira Calito, passed away while they were on tour. As a result, she had to return home to tend to her family – as any parent would’ve done.

Katharine McPhee and David Foster Share a 2-Year-Old Son

Katharine McPhee and David Foster first met in 2006, when McPhee was a contestant on American Idol and Foster was a guest mentor on the show. They quickly became friends and Foster even performed at her first wedding to Nick Cokas in 2008. Their friendship was strictly platonic at first, but that changed.

Fast forward nearly 10 years (in 2017) and rumors of a potential relationship started swirling. They made their official red carpet debut as a couple in 2018. They were engaged by June 2018 and tied the knot the following year in June 2018. In 2021, they welcomed their first child together, a son named Rennie David.

“One of [David’s] sisters suggested an old family name,” she said of why they chose the name Rennie for their son. “It was his great-grandfather’s name, his great-uncle’s name, so it has a long history in his family. My husband said, ‘Hi, Ren Foster,’ and so we said, ‘That’s a good name. It’s a strong name.’ “

Rennie is already taking after his parents and is showing an extreme interest in music – so hopefully it won’t be long before we see him perform alongside his parents. By then, who knows, maybe the couple will have other children – especially since Katharine McPhee has expressed in interest in adding more.
