During a recent episode of her self-named talk show, guest Kevin James took notice of Clarkson’s new appearance telling her that how good she’s looking these days. The comment prompted Clarkson to opened up about her decision to focus on her health.

“Well, I was told I was prediabetic,” the singer admitted, adding that she wasn’t surprised by the diagnosis. “I was a tiny bit overweight.”

Clarkson continued, adding that doctors told her she was “prediabetic, you’re right on the borderline. I was like ‘But I’m not there yet,’” she added, jokingly.

Admittedly, Clarkson said it wasn’t until about two years later that she “was ready to do something about it” and decided to finally take charge of her health.

And while her weight loss has been admired by millions on social media, Clarkson admits that it’s not all that it seems. “There’s a huge difference between being in shape and losing weight — and I am the latter,” she said candidly.

According to the American Diabetes Association, “before people develop type 2 diabetes, they almost always have prediabetes—where blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes.”

In January, Kelly told People that she’s been able to lose the weight because she “been listening to my doctor” and “I eat a healthy mix.” She admitted that for “a couple years she didn’t” listen to her doctors.

“And 90% of the time I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat — sorry, vegetarians in the world,” adding that “Walking in [New York City] is quite the workout.”
