Kirk Franklin Reveals How the Leaked Phone Argument Between Him and His Son, Kerrion Franklin, in 2021 Impacted His Life

It has been more than two years since Kerrion Franklin posted a since-deleted video of an argument he got into with his father, Kirk Franklin, over the phone. In the video, Kirk can be heard cursing at and threatening Kerrion – saying he will ‘put my foot in your a**’ and ‘break his neck’ if he disrespected him.

Kerrion went on to accuse his father of treating him poorly on a regular basis and claimed his father had a ‘deep hatred’ towards him. “I don’t think I’ll ever trust my father to be alone around him ever again,” he wrote in the caption – adding that he didn’t want to have to do this. “I don’t feel safe around him at all.”

A few hours after his son leaked the argument, Kirk Franklin took to his Twitter to release an apology video. He admitted that his relationship with his son has been rocky for years and they had tried to receive help from a therapist – to no avail. He also admitted to not being perfect, but he’s trying his best.

Kerrion Franklin responded to his father’s apology video and asked the world not to crucify Kirk Franklin over the argument, but not a whole lot has been said about the incident since – until now. He spoke to Page Six recently and opened up about the negative impact the leaked argument has had on his life.

“It traumatizes me to this day. It is very difficult, and my wife [Tammy] will tell you,” he told the media outlet. “That tape was a reflection of years of what our family dynamic has been going through, just so you know. You don’t have that type of anger out there without there being a history of something.”

Kirk Franklin has four children – two of which he shares with Tammy Collins, who he married on January 20, 1996. He ended up adopting her daughter, Carrington Franklin-Nakwaasah, after they got married and the couple later welcomed a daughter (Kennedy Franklin) in 1997 and a son (Caziah Franklin) in 2000.

Kerrion Franklin is the oldest of the four (born in 1988) and is from one of Kirk’s previous relationships – he describes himself as an ‘author, producer, and cinematographer.’ The father-son duo has never really seen eye-to-eye, but the leaked argument was the first time their issues with one another went public.

Kerrion Franklin Thanks Kirk Franklin Following Arrest in

Kerrion Franklin found himself in hot water last year when he was arrested for driving a vehicle that belonged to a woman who was assumed to be missing and dead. He maintained his innocence and claimed that he didn’t know the woman in question – adding that the gun found in the car wasn’t his.

At the time, Kerrion had prior warrants – including three misdemeanors – that resulted in him being held without bond. He was arrested on April 10, 2022 and spent several months in jail – he was discharged on June 1, 2022. He posted an Instagram photo the following day and thanked his parents in the caption.

“[Shoutout] My Mother & My Father & My Lighthouse [John P. Kee]. Thank you for the prayers & the wind the most High is moving me in. The journey is not over yet 1 more case left to handle tho freely here ii am out of jail,” he wrote in the caption – adding that there’s ‘a lot of talk, but today the King walks.’

It’s unclear where the father-son duo’s relationship stands today and Kirk Franklin didn’t say much else to Page Six – other than the past two years being the most difficult years of his life. With that said, Kirk recently released his new single ‘All Things’ and has a new dating show with his wife premiering on May 18.
