Months After Revealing Her 5-Year-Old Wasn’t Potty Trained, Kristen Bell Shared How She Finally Got Her to Pee on the Potty

Back in May, actress, mom of two, and host of the EllenTube show, Momsplaining, Kristen Bell, revealed on the show, that her 5-year-old daughter still wasn’t potty trained. During one of her many moments of honesty, Bell explained that while attempting to potty training her youngest child, Delta, nothing has really worked for them.

“I will say just because I did once go through the whole ‘my daughter is so easy’ phase. Sometimes it comes out of a reality because my oldest daughter at 21 months, we merely suggested that she used the toilet in the other room, never wore a diaper beyond that. And we were lying in bed giggling, my husband and I, like why does everyone make a big deal out of this? Potty training is so easy just tell the kid to use the toilet.”

But as Kristen Bell quickly learned all children are different, and potty training really isn’t that easy.

“Currently, my youngest is 5-and-a-half, still in diapers,” Bell lamented. But now it seems like all of that has changed after Bell and her husband, Dax Shepard, seemingly found a trick that worked for Delta.

And they’re sharing that trick with other parents in the midst of potty training their children.

During an interview with Today’s Parent, the proud parents of two shared that Delta is finally out of diapers. So what was the trick? “You know what we have to do? We wake her up at about 11 p.m. when she’s like a zombie and put her on the toilet,” Bell shared, before Dax joked, “Yeah, we put a wet spaghetti noodle on the toilet once a night.”

However, while Bell and Shepard finally found what works for Delta, she also wanted others to know that it’s okay to struggle with potty training. “I think it’s really normal and no one should feel ashamed if their kid has an irregular pattern for potty training,” Bell shared.

“And if you want to try this 11 o’clock make-them-pee trick, great, there’s no shame in any of it. Sometimes it takes kids until they’re even older than five! But I’ve never met a high-schooler who pees their pants all day. It’s going to stop at some point. And by the way, we’re making great, soft, absorbent diapers that they can pee in all night if you need them.”

Bell and Shepard are also the co-creators of a baby care line called Hello Bello, which offers top of the line organic baby products that are affordable and available at Walmart.

It’s as Bell said during the episode of Momsplaining, “It’s an interesting time to be a mom. It used to be that your mother-in-law was the only one who had an opinion on how you changed a diaper. And now everyone on the internet has an opinion too. You can never judge a mom by the sh*tshow. We’re all doing the best we can.” You can say that again, Kristen Bell.
