Mandy Moore Pays Tribute To Pilot Dad On His Final Day At American Airlines

Mandy Moore paid tribute to her dad, “Captain Don,” who took his last trip as a pilot for American Airlines this past week.

“It’s the end of an era for our family. After 42 years at the company, he’s reached the mandatory retirement age (65) and he’s saying goodbye to a career that he’s always claimed felt more like a hobby,” Moore wrote on Instagram.

“To have spent 2/3 of your life at one job; to have raised 3 children and made a living doing something you’re so deeply passionate about is an absolutely gift.”

“I hope you’re proud, Dad… because there are so many of us who sure are celebrating this milestone,” she continued. “Can’t wait for your next chapter and all of the unfiltered Grandpa time Gus is about to experience!! WE LOVE YOU!!!”

“Today was my first time ever flying with him!” Moore captioned one of the photos, which was shared originally in 2019. “Also my stepmom (an AA flight attendant) was working our flight as well so I got some face time with both of them on their breaks.”

This past summer, Moore spoke on being a new mother during the pandemic has affected her mental health.

In February, Moore gave birth to son August Harrison Goldsmith, or as she fondly calls him, Gus. While speaking to Dr. Ashurina Ream on Instagram Live, Moore revealed how motherhood was not exactly what she expected.

“I had these preconceived notions of myself going into motherhood,” she confessed. “Obviously, I knew it was going to be challenging, but I thought, ‘Oh, maybe I have this natural maternal side.’ Whatever the heck that means.”

After giving birth, Moore shared how she was “hit with this wave of just not feeling good enough … I just felt this rush of like, ‘I’m not good enough for him. I don’t know how to be his mom. I know how to feed him, but beyond that, am I suited for this?’”

She admitted that experiencing motherhood amid the pandemic has been surprisingly “isolating” at times.

“It’s strange because you’re with someone every day and every second, and you know, I’m very lucky, I have a very supportive partner — my husband’s been fantastic — but it still is so strangely isolating,” she said, mentioning her husband Taylor Goldsmith.
