The world is praying for NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson and his family as they are left to deal with a family tragedy. In a statement released by his team, Legacy Motor Club, TMZ reports that Johnson will not race this weekend as a result.
LMC wrote that they have “elected to withdraw the No. 84 Carvana Chevrolet from this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series event in Chicago.”
According to several reports, Jimmie Johnson’s wife’s parents and their 11-year-old nephew have passed away. Muskogee Police are investigating the tragedy as a murder-suicide.
At this time, while little is still known, police say Chandra Janway’s parents, Jack and Terry, and her nephew, Dalton, were discovered dead around 9 p.m. on June 26.
The deceased were discovered after authorities received a 911 call from a woman “who reported someone with a gun before hanging up,” TMZ alleges. Police are currently looking at Terry Janway as the lone suspect.
Muskogee Mayor Marlon Coleman told FOX23 that Jack was a “prominent chiropractor in town,” adding, “It was traumatizing to find out that a long-standing family who had made so many contributions to our community were involved in this type of incident. It was even more bone-chilling to find out there was a child involved.”
“I knew Dr. Janway. Dr. Janway has worked on me, we’ve been acquaintances for a very, very long time since I’ve been in Muskogee. Just knowing that it was him and his family took a different toll on me.”
A motive remains unclear, and it has not been confirmed if it was Terry who called 911. All three of the victims died of gunshot wounds.
Chandra and Jimmie have been married for the last 19 years. They share two children together.
