A husband who watched his wife give birth to their second child wrote a touching post on Facebook praising her for being the “real miracle.”
“I honestly don’t know how she did it. The pain was so intense, so overwhelming, that even I felt it,” new dad William Trice Battle wrote about his wife, Lauren Battle. “Yet she pulled through. The pain was gruesome. Her struggle seemed almost unbearable.”
“She gave her labor every ounce of life and energy she had in her,” he continued. “And then she gave a little bit more.”
The couple gave birth to a baby boy, Roman, earlier this month and William took a moment to write the beautiful post honoring his wife’s pregnancy and birthing process. The couple are also parents to five-year-old Kannon.
“We all finally get to love and hold the boy that she sacrificed her body, comfort, energy, and self for,” he wrote. “My son is an absolute miracle. Babies are absolute miracles. But to me, the greater miracle is his mother, who has shown me what selfless sacrifice really is. What love really is.”
The post hit a nerve with readers. To date, it has nearly 45,000 shares and 7,000 comments.
“Felt a little bit teary as I read the story..never knew what a man felt about the whole pregnancy & labor,” one person wrote. “Thank you for sharing & best wishes to your family!”

When I’m not hanging out with my three-year-old and husband in Brooklyn, I’m busy writing stories for Mamas Uncut and managing PR + Marketing for Magnolia Bakery, based in New York City. On weekends, you can usually find me at a local park or playground pushing my daughter on the swings, “researching” the best almond croissants in Park Slope or launching into impromptu family dance parties at home, the sidewalk or, every once in awhile, a restaurant bathroom. I’m still trying to master the whole parenting thing, but I have learned that copious amounts of coffee, humor and humility are involved on a daily basis.
