Nick Cannon Admits He’s Not a Perfect Father and Details Some of the Mistakes He Made Recently

When it comes to being a father, Nick Cannon makes mistakes and isn’t afraid to admit it. He has spoken about his mishaps in the past – for example, he accidentally sent two of his baby’s mothers the wrong Mother’s Day card – and is now opening up again on The Language of Love with Dr. Laura Berman.

Cannon sat down with Dr. Laura Berman, a relationship therapist, for an hour-long conversation about how he manages (and sometimes doesn’t) being a father of 12 children (11 of which are living). At one point during the conversation, he opened up about a recent mistake he made with two of his children.

Berman introduces listeners to the story, explaining how kids often experience weird symptoms or have random health scares. “And so one of the babies, I don’t know how many babies you have together, but your baby together was having some health concerns and she needed you emotionally,” Berman said.

Nick Cannon chimes in, saying he was ‘willing to be there physically,’ but didn’t think he was available ‘at the level that she needed me emotionally.’ His baby’s mother wanted to go to the appointment together, as opposed to him meeting them at the appointment – which was reasonable, but something came up.

“And last minute, another baby needed something,” Berman said – to which Cannon replied, “Because another baby had a health concern and needed a prescription.” Unfortunately, Cannon is only human and can’t be in two places at once. He knew he had to get the medicine, but the other mother needed him too.

Nick Cannon acknowledged how ‘past trauma and triggers’ of him not being around made it look like he was prioritizing. He also agreed with Berman, who acknowledged that several of his baby’s mothers ‘have wounds’ from the past and that they often ‘compare to each other’ – and Cannon understands why that is.

“Yeah because I f— up all the time! And my f— ups usually are because just of like, malpractice. Just being a dumb man. I didn’t do what I said I was going to do, I forgot to call or I was late,” he explains – proving that he’s just like the rest of us. He makes mistakes, he isn’t perfect, and he’s only human.

How Many Children Does Nick Cannon Have Now?

Nick Cannon has made plenty of headlines over the past few years as his family continues to grow. He first entered fatherhood in 2011 when his then-wife, Mariah Carey, gave birth to fraternal twins – Moroccan and Monroe, who turned 12 years old on April 30. Those were his only kids for nearly 10 years.

In 2017, Cannon welcomed his third child overall and first child with Brittany Bell – a son named Golden Sagon, who turned six on February 21. He didn’t have children for nearly four years, but would go on to welcome nine beautiful children with five different women between December 2020 and December 2022.

He welcomed two more children with Bell – Powerful Queen on December 23, 2020 and Rise Messiah in September 2022 and shares three children with Abby De La Rosa – twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir, who were born on June 14, 2021, and Beautiful Zeppelin, who was born on November 11, 2022.
