Paul Cattermole, one of the seven artists who make up the British pop band S Club 7, was found dead inside his residence in Dorset, England on Thursday, April 6 – he was just 46 years old. His death was confirmed in a statement by the band and his family on April 7, though a cause of death is unknown.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son and brother Paul Cattermole. While the cause of death is currently unknown, Dorset Police has confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances,” the statement read. His family and friends request privacy at this time.
The band furthered this statement on Twitter. “We are truly devastated by the passing of our brother Paul. There are no words to describe the deep sadness and loss we all feel. We were so lucky to have had him in our lives and are thankful for the amazing memories we have,” they said, adding a photo of young Paul.

S Club 7 formed in 1998 and were active for five years before disbanding in 2003 – Cattermole joined the band in 1999 and left in 2002, at which point they removed the ‘7’ from the name. They were formed by Simon Fuller, who managed the Spice Girls and created the format for Pop Idols and American Idol.
The band grew popular for their BBC television sitcom Miami 7. During their five years together, they sold 10 million albums, had 11 UK top 10 singles, four No. 1 singles, won two BRIT Awards, and won Record of the Year in 2001 with their hit ‘Don’t Stop Movin’’. Other hit songs include ‘Reach’ and ‘S Club Party.’
The other six original members of S Club 7 included Tina Barrett, Jon Lee, Bradley McIntosh, Hannah Spearritt, Jo O’Meara, and Rachel Stevens. “He will be so deeply missed by each and every one of us. We ask that you respect the privacy of his family and of the band at this time,” they added on Twitter.
After Paul Cattermole left S Club 7 in 2002, he created a ‘nu metal’ band called Skua with some old friends. They disbanded in 2003 due to a lack of success, but he returned in 2008 to form S Club 3 with O’Meara and McIntosh. He was open about his financial struggles in the years leading up to his death.
Paul Cattermole Had a Reunion Tour Planned
In 2015, all seven band members reunited for a ‘Bring It All Back 2015’ tour – their first concert tour in 12 years. They performed 12 times in 11 cities between May 7 and May 21 – including Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Nottingham, London, Leeds, Glasgow, and Sheffield.
On February 13, 2023 – nearly two months ago – the band announced a second reunion tour for their 25th anniversary celebration. The reunion tour was set to begin in mid-October 2023 at M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool. They had 11 performances scheduled in arenas across the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The band hasn’t announced a cancellation and will likely continue on with their plans in honor of their lost friend. While the band is emotionally hurt in his absence, Paul Cattermole would want them to continue with the tour – bringing new meaning to the reunion and sharing their hit music with fans across the UK.

“Paul was a beacon of light for a generation of pop music fans and he will be greatly missed. We’re all deeply shocked and saddened by this news,” Simon Fuller said of Paul’s death.
